MissJoness Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I notice alot of posters who are in their late 20s, early 30s are saying that they look much younger than they are; like around 18-25 yrs old. Some of it sounds like bragging. But really, what is wrong with looking like you're 30? Does a woman who is 30, and happens to look 30 a bad thing?
lucy9216 Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 No, because 30 is the new 20 and 40 is the new 30. Something like that and so on haha.
Thaddeus Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Not at all. In fact, I'd much prefer a woman do the best with what she's got and not try to come off as 10 or more years younger. That just screams "shallow narcissist" to me.
CaliGuy Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 No, because 30 is the new 20 and 40 is the new 30. Something like that and so on haha. I agree and endorse this statement. Looking youthful, especially when you are older, is a sign that you take good care of yourself. It's sort of like when someone in their late 20s looks like they're in their 40s. To me it says "You don't take care of yourself...."
Lizzie60 Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Nothing wrong with looking your age... it gets embarassing when you look 10+ years older than your age.. I have to say that I'm happy that I don't look my age.. I know.. I know.. we all say that we don't look our age.. but the fact is... most of the time..people do look their age.. I noticed that, frequently, on dating profiles (dating sites).. people say they look younger... huh??? I don't think so... I've seen faces on here too that, eventhough they say they look younger.. I think they really look their age..

I think it is mostly the perception of a person that makes people mis-guess the age of others. If the person seems energetic or fun, people will guess them younger than they are and sometimes younger than they even look.

I think they really look their age.. Yeah, i agree. There have been a select few who really do look younger than what they are. But most of the time, especially when a person speaks, you can tell their real age. If you are 30, and people think you are 20, even when you open your mouth to speak, seriously something is wrong because your mind hasn't developed or matured very much in 10 years
lucy9216 Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 With myself I have noticed it is how I put myself together on any given day. One day I may be wearing jeans and a t-shirt, that may look like something someone younger would wear and I get carded for cigarettes or beer. When I am dressed in one of my suits from an interview or going to a funeral I don't get carded. It doesent really matter how old you look, it is how old you feel and I agree with what Caliguy stated: I agree and endorse this statement. LucreziaBorgia Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 There's nothing wrong with looking your age. I don't look my age, and I don't dress my age either - but that is primarily because I can get away with it. I wouldn't call it bragging, though. It isn't as if looking younger has really gotten me much. I just like it personally, I guess. The way I see it - live the age you feel you are. Just be aware that the more disparity there is, the more likely you are to appear 'off' to others. If that sort of thing matters to you, that is.
Devil Inside Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Nothing. However a youthful appearance is highly valued in American society...so most strive to achieve a younger look.
2sure Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 If someone looks old and haggard with wrinkles, gray hair and false teeth, they probably have contributed to that a great deal. That's their own fault. Yes, you age, but I think its has a lot to do how you take care of yourself. A hard and difficult life can age a person prematurely and severely. Being poor, not having health care, abused, illness, etc. These things can become part of almost anyone's life in any country. Yeah, its their own fault.
AugustLane Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Well here is my take. I am 32. For me, saying I look younger than I am is NOT bragging. I find it to be both a blessing and a curse. Some folks older than myself- usually 40+ like to speak to me as though I am a child or their child. Cute little pet names and all. I am in a position of authority where I work. When dealing with some older customers who are new to the place they will look for someone older to give them advice on a product- or look very surprised to find out I am the boss. I am the most knowledgeable person there next to the owner but am short and look young, so they tend to dismiss me at first. When out in public I get the same thing. If I am with my mom forget about it! I was trying some really nice dresses for a wedding I was attending. I took my mom along to get her opinion. The woman tending the fitting rooms was kind enough to let me know that they had more prom dresses upstairs! My mom laughed. I just said thanks. When I went back in to the fitting room the woman proceeded to ask her where I went to school. It is really flattering to know I look so young, but on the other side of the coin I am a grown woman and being spoken to like a young adult can be frustrating. I wouldn't change it because I know someday it will change and I will miss these days- but it would be nice to be spoken to as an equal- or grown up if you will- once and a while.
Lizzie60 Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I find that women who smoke and drink age much much faster... and the ones who get tanned continuously... they get that leather skin.. ewwwww... and they say they look younger..
Lizzie60 Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I think what's most important is what comes from inside.. like.. under the skin.. eating lots of fruits and vegetables.. at least 8 hours of sleep.. trying to manage our stress.. vitamins and minerals.. avoid the sun.. smoking and alcohol... THOSE are the essentials.. much more important than creams and moisturizers..
missdependant Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Yeah, I'm 28 and people tell me I look as young as 23. I've even been told younger. It is rather nice, than being told I look older than my age. Funny.. based on your posts, I'd have guessed you were about 16. Anyway, I'm a firm believer that you're only as old as you feel and that age is just a number. If you live a healthy lifestyle, exercise, eat healthy or even use cosmetic surgeries to your advantage, you'll probably look younger than you really are. If you're living an unhealthy life, a fast-food glutton, druggie, etc. you'll probably look older than your actual age.
2sure Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 No one should smoke or go tanning - obviously those things age you. But if your talking about hair coloring and chemical teeth whitening ...isnt doing those things making you fake? Disguising who you really are? And teeth naturally become more yellow as you age...what if the strips are no longer enough to keep them white? Will you then have them bleached or just let them yellow naturally with age?
Author MissJoness Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 I'm saying, why do men want a 30 year old who looks 18? What's wrong with having a 30 year old who looks 30? If you are 30, and look it, does it mean you look old?
missdependant Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I'm saying, why do men want a 30 year old who looks 18? What's wrong with having a 30 year old who looks 30? If you are 30, and look it, does it mean you look old? 30 isn't that old.. I've heard 30s can be really fun, too. I'm sure there are men out there who are in their 30s, look like they're in their 30s and wouldn't mind dating another person who looks like they're in their 30s.
marlena Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 A hard and difficult life can age a person prematurely and severely. Being poor, not having health care, abused, illness, etc. These things can become part of almost anyone's life in any country. Yeah, its their own fault. So true. It doesn't always scream "I don't take care of myself." Circumstances are most certainly a huge factor. I agree with Lizzie as well. Most people look their age. Even in the best of circumstances, the most you can hide is 7 to 10 years. Someone saying they are 55 and look 35 is either blind or lying.
norajane Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I'm saying, why do men want a 30 year old who looks 18? What's wrong with having a 30 year old who looks 30? If you are 30, and look it, does it mean you look old? Maybe men want to feel like they're younger than they are and can still get the young girls? I think women at 30 are gorgeous, much more so than at 18.
marlena Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I think women at 30 are gorgeous, much more so than at 18. Absolutely. Little girls can't light a match to women in their thirties. Men just like to go after Lolitas because it makes them feel young and virile. Oh, did I forget to add foolish?

You don't want the truth, I'm sure, but I'll give it to you anyway. From a strictly biological standpoint, women want to look younger because men are attracted to younger women because youth correlates with fertility. At 30 you're reaching the edge of your fertility window and men are biologically geared to want someone younger who is more likely to give them healthy offspring. And this isn't just the case in "western society", and "the media" is not to blame. It's a worldwide truth as old as Homo Sapiens itself.
Lizzie60 Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I don't drink ...smoke or go in the sun or tanning salons.. I eat as healthy as I can.. I sleep at least 6-7 hours a night.. I drink tons of green tea.. (about 6-7 cups a day).. I colour my hair.. no way I will let them go gray.. ewwwww I like them shiny and healthy looking (frequent trims) I had my teeth whitened at the dentist... looks really good.. although my teeth weren't yellow.. I wanted them a bit whiter.. I looove it. The only cosmetic surgery I had was thermage ($3500) about 4 years ago... it hurt like crazy.. never again.. I take care of myself.. I use expensive moisturizers and face creams.. Apparently an active sex life is also good for the skin.. it releases oxytocin.. that makes your skin glow.. Oh.. not to forget semen.. which is also a good 'mask' for your skin.. why not ask your SO to shoot a little bit on your face tonite.. it's a good source of protein and vitamin E.. and here we are buying all those expensive creams.. imagine all the money we can save.. and the SO will be happier..
GorillaTheater Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Oh.. not to forget semen.. which is also a good 'mask' for your skin.. why not ask your SO to shoot a little bit on your face tonite.. I'm going to bring this up with the wife tonight. I'll let you all know how it goes.
