Generalizations can be fun. You get to sound knowledgeable, definite, profound, even powerful. And you always have an edge. When people argue with you, all you have to do is seem to give an inch. "Well, okay - almost everybody." And you really haven't given anything. Take this generalization: Generally, the generalizations you make about others reflect more about you than they tell us anything objective about others. Here's a typical example. "All people will use you if you give them a chance." Now, assuming my generalization, that reflects more about you then the "them" it indicates. It could mean that you feel fearful and helpless about revealing your needs and asking for what you want. So you end up doing the other person's will and feeling resentful afterwards. Or it could mean that you over-give as a hint that you want something. Of course, this is only true sometimes, for some of you-generally speaking.

I just wanted to share this...

I'd be very, very careful about anything that comes spewing out of that Dr Laura character.

You do know, of course, that her doctorate is in physiology, right? Nothing whatsoever to do with psychology..?

I get that... but I liked the passage. Not everything in the book I agreed with, but with all the gender bashing that goes on... I think it makes sense.
