borbiusle Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 A little backstory: My mom and stepdad have been together for about 16 years now, never married, but they bought a house together, had a son together. My mom and stepdad use to argue and fight almost every day about everything, including us. I never really cared for my stepdad, we fought alot physically while I grew up, he's a Vietnam war vet with anger issues, we're cool now but he's of no concern to me regarding this. Anyways, my younger brother(not my "stepbrother"), goes to my mom's apartment building every month to collect rent. My mom lived in the building alone at the time to care for my grand-uncle who was recovering from surgery. My brother goes downstairs to give my mom the rent and he tells me before opening the door, he heard some kind of commotion. He walks into the room and sees one of my mom's tenants hiding under her bed in broad daylight. My brother pretends not to notice, gives my mom her money, and walks out. My mom and this tenant have been talking back and forth for years now on friendly terms, having coffee every week in the kitchen over there. I didn't think any of it because it's customary in her country to discuss important matters over a cup of coffee, she's like this with everyone, male/female, young or old. My brothers and I haven't confronted her about what my younger brother saw, we're afraid this will ultimately end up ripping our family apart even further and destroying our stepbro's life. He's a really sensitive kid and is living a childhood I can only dream of. Even worse, I'm afraid of losing respect for my mother, this guy is the epitome of loser, even my mom agrees, that's the sad part. He's been to jail 5 times for gang-related violence before cleaning himself up, he lives alone with 4 cats, he spends his days after work sitting on the front porch whistling at 13-16 year old girls with big butts walking by, he doesn't have any real skills or hobbies, and he has a locker overflowing with strange *silent* porn films. The only thing he's got going for him is that he's nice and reads the bible alot, at least, I think he can read (his bible always seems to be on the same page). Honestly, I don't think their relationship or whatever the hell is going on is going to last or go anywhere, I just don't know why my mother is giving this guy the time of day, it's not in her character at all, and it disturbs my brothers and I deeply on many levels.
