I've been kind of getting down on basically wasting my youth, so I'm just wondering since this board has a huge range in ages what were the best years of your life? I remembering hearing this a lot about High School, but that only seems to apply to prom queen/king who went on to do nothing after High School and those were his glory years. Others say college since many experience freedom before they head off for jobs in the real world which drain them.

So just wondering what most people consider as the best years of their lives?

If college is the best time of my life then I'm screwed for next 50 or so years.

If high school was the best time of my life then I'd ask where Satan is, because this life MUST be hell.

I'm hoping my later 20's and on will be the best part, when I'm well out of over-rated college and well established in my profession.

I have to say that I had my best years when I hit 45.. to this day (57).. those are my best years so far..

Before that, I was miserable.. stuck in a relationship with someone I didn't love anymore..

When I separated.. I started to live .. got my independence back.. my self esteem.. my confidence..

Since my 50th .. after I left my 2nd relationship... I can say that I am even more happy with my life.. so I would say that the last 7 years were the best..

Liz's best years were when we were lovers in Rome. Oh, the nights, Oh , the passion. I will never forget, my love.:laugh::laugh:

Right now. Each new year brings a new adventure.

I have a great wife, great friends, a decent job and lots of opportunity to travel. Always something to do, and I'm always up for doing something.

Right now though I do have some fond memories of my wild days in the city.

Either the couple of years after moving to London - when I achieved my career goals, while at the same time partying every night like there was no tomorrow (often, there wasn't) and enjoying the company of many women...

Then, when it all fell apart like the end of Evelyn Waugh's Vile Bodies, I met the best of the lot and spent two years in calm, domestic bliss.

Who knows what the next two years will bring??

I try to live in the moment making the best of everything. There are moments from my past which were amazing. Some of those times were happier and more exciting than things I'm experiencing right now. But that's only because I usually don't miss what I have until it's gone. For as long as I live, I want to believe better things will be in front of me, not behind me.

The best year of my life so far was 1992. I was 20 years old, had lots of great friends and no worries or responsibilities. Life was just one long summer beach party ;)

Posted

My best years (according to my age):

18-24: College, getting married, having my daughter

27-31: Living near the beach

40-45: Great job, great BF, new lease on life

I should note that after each of these happy stretches, a slew of bad/difficult years ensued. I'm in this state right now... and patiently waiting for better days.

Life is a rollercoaster. What goes up, must come down - and vice versa.

I'm actually looking forward to being 40. I think I'll really come into my own then :)

I try very hard not to look back on my youth & feel as if anything was wasted. THAT'S the waste...each year brings something different from the previous & each has highs & lows. I just try to live each DAY as if it might be the last so that each year can be the "best yet." If you focus too much on the past, you can't enjoy the present, when you could be making great memories...

From when I was 19 to now, and it's still getting better. And better.

Life is good!

Edit: Oh, and I'm 30+ now.

I had fun through every age and stage in life! :bunny:

Sure, bad things happened but how else do you learn what pitfalls to avoid? Living a life full of regret is an exercise in futility because you can't change the past. What you can change is the current and the future. Make no changes and each new stage in life, will be just another big regret to a wasted life.

I'd say right now is pretty darn awesome, and I expect it'll only get better. :)

That's how I felt too. LOL

The best days of my life so far were basically my whole childhood years up until I was 13. Those days were great, despite my mothers alcoholism and drug abuse, her my sister and I always had some awesome moments and had a bunch of really fun family friends. We were always traveling and doing something different and I was always the center of attention and the light of the party amongst my friends, my sister as well.

I met so many people of all walks of life and just enjoyed being a kid. Up until I was 13, then my mother married this real big massive jerk and everything turned around. From 13-18 everything was pretty lame but things get better around 19 but there were still some bumps in the road but nothing too difficult.

High school was such a massive disappointment and trust me I did more than enough to try and make it the best time of my life. College was very overrated for me as well. However, I try and enjoy what I have now, that's I can really do. As many times as I get down, my imagination helps me back up.

I'm still waiting for the best years of my life, because everything else sucked.

Childhood: Moved every year or two

Adolescence: My father made life hell

20s: Married to a guy I didn't love, had to work odd jobs, lived in bad areas away from my home country.

Late 20s: Struggled to finish college (took up to 21 units per sem), didn't sleep, married to another guy I didn't love.

30s: Got my dream job that sucked balls. I hated it and hated my career and lost all interest in work and education, got divorced.

Mid 30s: Dated another guy I didn't love, got fired, struggled with unemployment for years, met DG.

Late 30s: Never got in a relationship with DG and run out of money.

40s: Now, worse than ever, unemployed again, alone, and I have no idea what I'm going to do with my life.

I'm not very hopeful they will ever come, since I expect everything to get worse. I expect to get ugly, old, unhealthy, and more poor.

But I guess if I had to choose a period when things were a little happy.. It would be when my son was born that I was a SAHM and spent the day taking care of him. He was a beautiful baby and we always got along perfectly.

I'm 21 so I only have a few years behind me and a whole life ahead of me. But I guess so far my best years were between 16-18 years old. Things have been starting to look up for me again though and I'm about to enter my last year of college so now that things feel like they're actually going somewhere again I'm very excited!

Well, as you can see, everybody's experiences are different. High school for me wasn't that great. I didn't do that much stuff with friends but I was fine with that. College, on the other hand, was amazing. I had such a great group of friends and we did so much fun stuff. Looking back on these two periods of my life, amazingly, except for romantic relationship stuff, I have no regrets. The thing I've learned in even my short life is you have to make things memorable. I made conscious decisions to join groups and explore new things and those decisions ended up giving me the best memories.
