Author Lauriebell82 Posted August 9, 2009 Author Posted August 9, 2009 A potluck in my mother's backyard. Very easy. Actually my 85 year old step-grandmother said it was the nicest wedding she'd ever been to. Aww, that's wonderful! We def. wouldn't be having a big shabang wedding if we were paying for the whole thing. We got very lucky. I kind of wonder what a smaller wedding would be like. Probably very quaint and nice.
confusedinkansas Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Long distance relationship for the most part. Knew each other - wrote letters, phone calls, visits, etc. for a year. Dated for a about 6 months....became engaged - married a year later. But I was 18 he was 21. Back in the 80's things were VERY different than they are now.
2sure Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 We were engaged long enough to plan a wedding - we did it in 6 months because we got lucky with reservations. Usually an engagement period with solid plans for a wedding is a year, year and a half. I dont understand how the commitment a couple has changes when they get "engaged" but have no plans in process to move it forward.
GorillaTheater Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 We dated for abit when I was 18 and she was 16. Then she kicked my azz to the kerb, didn't see her for a couple of years, got back together, engaged for around 10 months or so. Married for 26 years in December.
CM2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Dated for a 11 months Engaged for another 11 months and then got married
Acousticzen Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Met in March. Married in September the same year.
Holding-On Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Met in March. Married in September the same year. So how much of that time was spent engaged? I'm looking to hold the shortest record here
Acousticzen Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 So how much of that time was spent engaged? I'm looking to hold the shortest record here Engaged in June so 3 months from meeting to engagement. Marriage lasted 18 years 10 of which were pretty damn good (not in a row)
SoulSearch_CO Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 We dated just over a year, got engaged, got married just over a month later. Were married for 4-1/2 years.
Sam Spade Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I'm not married, but I don't see the point of a long engagement unless you really need that time in order to save up the funds for a wedding. . Alternatively, the purpose of a long engagement is to leave enought time to pay off the damned rock . engagement is not a commitment, but it seems to give girls some peace of mind that things are moving along, so if so, I can live with it (but the cost pisses me off )

I agree... OR, unless there are other life events in the way, or you want to have your wedding at a particular place, and need to extend the date until it's available.

Yeah, we had to wait because of the venue we picked. I know it will be worth it though. It's a year away now!!!
stefspets Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 We got engaged after dating for 9 months, and it will be 9 months of being engaged when we get married in October!
