I contacted him online and he responded and for a month now we have been going back and forth -small talk. We haven't even exchanged personal email addresses. Everytime, I politely try to end the online dialogue he sends me another small talk message, weather, music, the latest free concert. I guess he is just bored and likes having someone he can have small talk with - anyone else had similar experiences?

You contacted him so obviously there is something about his profile that you like. Now make the next small step and ask him out on a date. If you don't like him anymore then stop responding to his messages. Simple.

Clearly he is interesting but this necessarily is not in line with what you want to chat about. And if u reckon you share interests and values and your compatible then suggest a date
