I am curious. I met a guy at work the other day who looked like he was 25. I come to find out hes a year younger than me! I am 20 BTW. I was shocked..and began to think..i do look young for my age..maybe around 18. I look the exact same from when i was 18 until i am now. Does that hinder the dating scene for me?

I notice that most guys who look old and are say my age...get a lot more girls. I could care less....but is it becasue girls like older guys?

According to my psychology class last semester, yes, evolutionary psychologists are inclined to say women are attracted towards older men for reproductive purposes learned over generations of the species.

Obviously it's just something "general" - we've all heard of older women seducing the younger males.

The same thing is reversed for men according to evolutionary psychologists (both are reasoned as such for reproductive reasons).

I've always looked younger than I am. Usually by about 2 years or so. Even more when I don't have any facial hair. I asked a waitress about 3 months ago how old I looked (my sister and I were trying to convince her we're twins haha), and she said 20 - but I'm 23.

It's really never occurred to me that it could be an issue though. Hasn't directly hampered my dating at all.

If you think it's a problem, have you tried growing facial hair or anything? Changing your hair?

I have the opposite problem. I'm 18 and haven't been mistaken for anything younger than 23 (at least in person). I've bit hit on at the gym by a lady with an 8-year old son - I have no idea what that is about...

There's a good chance I think this because I'm older than you...but I would have to say being 20 and looking 18 probably doesn't hinder your chances of dating girls. First, those ages are SO close - only 2 years - but (to my mind) more importantly, those ages are really associated (generally) with a particular set of experiences, maturity, etc. - you're still school age.

If you were 25 or older and people thought you looked 18, then yes, I would think there was a chance that looking younger might hinder your chances with certain girls.

On the other hand - if you were a 25 yo or older GIRL who looked 18 - it would probably be a good thing

Same here, I'm 20 and women usually think I'm at least 25. Last summer I met these 24 year old girls on the beach and was hanging out with them all day. Then somewhere I mentioned that I wasn't drinking age yet. Suddenly I went from being the hot older guy to being "the baby!" It wouldn't be a problem if I was over 21, but when they say they're gonna go to the bars I have to tell them, or else go and probably be carded and not let in.

I'm coming up 30 and people typically think I'm 22-23. A few months ago a 20 year old friend of my sister's tried to hit on me because he thought I was his age, and at Xmas I got stopped at the airport because I was carrying alcohol and they thought I was under 21 and therefore too young to have it. My bf didn't hit on me until he found out how old I was, because he initially thought I was too young for him to date. All his friends tend to assume I'm really young, and some of them made snidey comments about the age gap until being told my real age.

Looking young is great and I hope I can always pass for being 8-10 years younger than I really am, but it does cause problems with dating because I get hit on by guys that are too young for me, and the guys that are the right age don't hit on me at all because they think I'm too young. I think men have it even worse if they look young, because women often don't want to date a guy who looks a lot younger than them, especially if he still looks like a kid.

Wouldn't be a problem in Europe. Visit! :p

But really, I understand - it sucks.

I know there are a few ladies on LS who like the boyish look ;) , myself included. A 30 year old who looked 22 could be very attractive if his personality was 30... lol.

i'm 32 and i get carded everywhere i go, in the states anyways. outside the US no one cares how old you look. besides this, i can't think of any other issues with looking younger than i am.
