Just thought I'd ask what everyone's thoughts are..

I don't. Nor soulmates.

I used to, but the older I get the more I realize that we ourselves are constantly changing, so how could one person be perfect for us our whole lives? I used to believe this one girl was "the one" for me, and we never go together. I was heartbroken for a long time, but now I'm with a great girl, and we have so many things in common....however, when I was in love with the other girl, I had thought I had so many things in common with her. I realized I had changed as a person, and therefore, so did what I was looking for in a woman.

But what if the "One" came back into your life?

If I had to choose between my current gf and her, I would definitely choose my current gf. This other girl and I both have changed so much that the most we could ever be now is friends.

i believe people make themselves out to be star crossed lovers.

Well, the original "star-crossed lovers" didn't exactly have a happy ending...

I don't believe in star-crossed lovers. Two people who truly love each other should be able to be together; they wouldn't allow anything (well, except one's death, but sometimes not even that) to stand in the way of their love.

I believe in cross-eyed lovers and yes, even star-crossed lovers. Some lovers are so messed up, no matter what they do, it ain't gonna' happen.

As for lovers who are truly destined, as in cosmically forced apart, no... The cosmos don't give a crap about measley human lives.

I don't believe in astrology, so 'star-crossed' has no cogent meaning to me, but the more generic definition as lovers who are connected, love deeply but yet can't manage to have that easy relationship that many in love seem to have does make sense. Perhaps it is the realities of the bond which obviate its longevity, even as the love remains. Sometimes, for some people, more elemental isn't better. However, that said, if their psychologies match up, whoa, watch out. That's a horse I'd love to ride :)

Ok, call me dumb, but I had never heard of "star crossed lovers", so here's what I found:

"Star-crossed" or "star-crossed lovers" is a phrase describing a pair of lovers whose relationship is said to be doomed from the start. The phrase is astrological in origin, stemming from the belief that the positions of the stars ruled over people's fates. To describe a relationship as "star-crossed" is to say that it is "thwarted by a malign star",[1] or that the stars are working against the relationship. The phrase is best known from the play Romeo and Juliet by the Elizabethan playwright William Shakespeare.

I don't believe in this at all. You either match, love each other, and work things out, or you don't.

On a slightly different note: I'm still debating with myself whether I believe in soulmates or not, because my boyfriend and I had this whole "time stood still" sort of feeling when we first met ages ago, and then it turned into quite a story until we finally ended up dating years later. It does feel like fate so to speak. Who knows. Time will tell. I'm an optimist! :)
