Okay. The problem is...

Dogs are a commitment and we should be able to have some heresay on this. He is closed to any discussion!

We might start a small entrepreneurship business together. I volunteered to pay for half of high quality equipment that we need providing he pays the other half -- and he thinks he can skimp on price and quality! These are things that are a *definite* necessary... and I feel he's closed to discussion on this as well.

I have a vision for this business. I need him to discuss and engage with me in a reasonable exchange. He is being frugal! And stubborn!

Insight? Advice?

Cute dog breeds?

You've stated some "facts". What is/are your questions or concerns beyond saying that the two of you don't agree on things? Plse expand.

I will say that I agree with him about dog size, no offense to tiny dog lovers. You can do a lot more with big dogs, as far as athletics and also from a protection perspective.

Edit - Just saw your edit. It sounds to me like you're both being stubborn. You want to engage him so you can convince him otherwise and he refuses to be engaged.

How about a nice beagle?

I had a tiny pomeranian that past away a couple of years ago and as sweet and cute as she was, I wouldn't recommend that dog breed.

Most really small dog breeds are very, very difficult to housebreak. Pomeranians are usually a one person dog. They're not very good with children and they bark constantly at every noise.

I tend to prefer the medium sized, wrinkly skinned dog breeds. Brush coat, meat mouth Shar peis were the best dogs that I've ever had but I also like Pugs and Bulldogs. :)

If you ultimately decide to get a big guard dog be sure and find out what the average lifespan is. The bigger the dog breed, the shorter the lifespan. We had a Mastiff when I was a kid and their average lifespan was around 5 1/2 to 7 years.

Do you two live together?

And is he going to take the dog with him when he goes travelling? Or will you keep the dog with you at school?

Personally, I'm not a fan of small dogs. They tend to be yappy, hyperactive and not good with kids, at least in my experience. One of my exes had a pomeranian cross-bred with something else (don't know what, she got it from the pound) and it was a really miserable little cuss. Forever barking its little head off, chewing up the furniture and all the rest.

I've had much better luck with larger breeds. I had a Newfie once (long since dead now) and he was the gentlest old soul you'd ever want to meet. Loved kids, loved the water, and devoted to a fault.

Picking a dog breed will rely on your lifestyle. Select wisely. Pocket dogs are good for a more sedentary lifestyle, since they don't need so much room. Larger dogs need room to move and stretch their legs out or they get fat...fast!
