While public transportation has been pretty good to me, it has its limits (most routes stop ~8-9PM, trolley stops ~12AM). It's nice to meet other people, but when I try to do something, it takes a ton of guts on an already-shy guy to say "hey, I don't have a car, here's what happen, can you give me a lift" to someone I just met. I'm saving money for a new car (November is the projective date), but I could be blowing this up farther than I had hoped.

I'll meet you <wherever> if it won't be too inconvenient for you to give me a ride home later. Otherwise I'll have to leave by <whenever> to catch the last public transport. I'll pay for the gas, of course." Leave it up to them to decide if they can or cannot, do or do not want to, give you a ride.
