jessy1 Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Hey guys I have a huge problem that im not really sure can be helped but im going to put it out there anyway .. Its my nose I have an absolutly huge nose with a large bump in the middle. I was just born like this. I got it from my mum. I hate it SO MUCH that it is ruined my life. I have been teased endlessly through out my life about it and it hurts SSOOOOOOO much!! I once pulled up beside a car full of guys and they yelled out "show us your giant nose" then drove off in fits of laughter. I get this thing all the time and it breaks my heart more than you can imagine. No guys are interested in me and I dont really blame them. Its affected everything in my life. I dont go out and when I do I am honestly constantly worried about being picked on. I am terrified to pull up next to someone in my car and let them see my nose. I feel like crap day in and out because of this. I know i'll end up alone because of it. I really want to get out there but I just cant. My insecurities due to my nose hold me back. Unfortunatly im a student with about $16 to my name so getting it fixed is not an option Does anyone know any magic tricks on how to make it better? I would post a photo but all mine are front on as I NEVER turn side on in a photo and to be honest the negative comments would break my heart. Does any one else have this problem? p.s I know you guys are wonderful here but if your ever having an off day and see someone with a big nose or any other inperfection PLEASE dont say anything as you never know how much it hurts and shapes someones life
Ross PK Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I'd never pick on someone because I'm having an off day. I guess since there's no free health care in America then that would mean that you wouldn't be able to see a therapist for free. Would you be able to afford to see one? A therapist would be able to help you to be able to deal with it/come to terms with it. Also, there is a trick where if you're anxious or uncomfortable and you accept the situation, they way you feel, it can make the anxiety go away or be less. Maybe if you could except the fact that you've got a big nose (this doesn't mean you have to like it) and the way people react to you, it may help you feel better. Also, keep in mind there's always the option of plastic surgery when you are earning more money.
norajane Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 There are make-up tricks that can help a little to minimize how your nose appears. Using light and shadow with make-up can help. Google make up and minimizing large nose and I'm sure you'll find something. Also, keep in mind that teens can be cruel, and just because you're being teased doesn't mean that you have the hugest nose ever. Teens can always find something to tease people about. Adults aren't as cruel. But, if this is making you so miserable, can you talk to your parents about plastic surgery? Let them know what is happening and how you're feeling. Tell them how miserable you are. Show them what you wrote here. I remember kids in high school getting nose jobs to fix deviated septums, and that was covered by insurance. Are you having any breathing problems? Do you have trouble sleeping because you keep waking up because you can't breathe properly? You can have a doctor look at it - often if there is a bump, your nose is crooked on the inside and a doctor can make a case for improved breathing through nose job. Finally, if your parents won't or can't help, and a doctor says there is nothing wrong with your nose, get a job and start saving your pennies and birthday money and whatnot so you can go and get it done yourself when you're 18. Sell stuff you don't need on eBay or Craigs list. You have your whole life ahead of you, and if you have to wait a couple of years until you have enough money to get a nose job, it's no big deal. Do it before college if you can, so you can start fresh.
carhill Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Imagine those low-lifes who tease you sitting on the john taking a dump. Not too attractive, right? Trust me, their shyte stinks just fine. BTW, they're not perfect either. None of us is. Save your pennies and get it fixed if you feel you must, but be aware that the entirety of your life will be imperfect and filled with challenges. Learn to accept yourself and view your perceived weaknesses as strengths. Think about that. You are in complete control and can choose any path of acceptance.
IfWishesWereHorses Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Jesse, People who pick on people for fun have much more serious problems than a large nose. I'm also affraid that if the fear of being made fun of it is forefront in your mind, its going to happen more often. I love to look at awkward 6 or 7 year old girls, with some of their teeth missing and others too big for their mouths. Hair a rats nest, maybe a lazy eye or a large nose. They are the most adorably delightful, beautiful creatures on earth. They flash big sincere smiles with that mess of a mouth, and you can't help but see beauty. That's because their beauty comes from within and they won't for a few more years begin to associate it with their self worth. You might not be able to get your nose fixed but you can focus on the little girl inside of you, learn to ignore your nose and take confidence in all of the wonderful things about you. Go back a look at worry free pictures of Jessy before she decided she didn't like her nose. I agree with NJ on the makeup issue, also try wearing a cute visor when appropriate. It will make your nose seem much smaller. Hairstyles can distract from it too, or make it seem more proportionate. Whatever you do, don't let a bunch of snotty-nosed brats lessen who you believe you are. Get over that now so that you don't carry it into your adult life. You are not your nose!
Jilly Bean Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 If surgery is not an option, then I strongly suggest you embrace your nose, as it is YOU. I don't think Barbara Streisand suffered any for her schnoz. In fact, many, including myself, find her quite striking and lovely.
pocoyo Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Hi there, I just wanted to say that I had a nose job when I was 19. I am now 25 and it was one of the best things I ever did. My nose ruined my life at the time. I had a bump in my nose just like you and i hated it so much. I was teased because of it. It got to the point when I hated anyone seeing me from the side and I would walk in different angles to avoid it. It wasn't painful but I had to have it re-done a year later because some gristle grew on the end and I had that removed. The only painful part is the stitches, which I only had the second time and the removing of the nose packs. It last like 2 seconds but it's a horrible feeling. Lol. I totally understand how you are feeling and I say go for it. I never regretted it, but I know I would have if I hadn't done it. You could try councelling etc...but I have to be truthfula and say that i'm not sure that would have helped me. xxx
Lishy Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 In England you can get it done for nothing if you can prove it is making your life miserable. If you cant do that where you live then save and get your nose fixed. In the meantime, remember that everyone is individual and no one in the world is perfect! I am sure you are lovely just as you are but if it is ruining your life then get it done when you can
m-j Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 In Australia everyone gets personal loans! I'm getting my breasts done in a couple of months because i felt so insecure about my small breasts and couldn't fit into clothes properly! I am also planning on getting my nose done at some point. I believe if you are in so much emotional pain over a certain body part there is no reason why you shouldnt get it fixed. Of course, some people go overboard but you sound like your only issue is your nose. I am 22 years old and I have just dealt with having a big nose and small boobs for this long and now that I can afford it (or at least get a loan!) I am getting it done! Just stick it out for as long as possible and when you can afford it, do it!
