Maxis Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 Ok, so, my girlfriend's birthday is coming up. This'll be her first birthday since we got together. That's the initial premise. Now, for a little backstory. Feel free to skip this part if it's too much, but I think it helps put things into perspective. Alright, so, I actually met this girl 6 years ago while we were in middle school. We started talking, and became incredibly good friends. Eventually we started telling eachother everything, and pretty much became best friends. We were both teased about how we should date and what not by other people of course, but we maintained the "we're just friends" line. Now then, senior year of high school 6 years later, we got into our first huge disagreement and stopped talking to one another for a few months. At some point, we decided it wasn't worth losing eachother, and the time apart sort of made us realize we had stronger feelings for one another. We talked, made up, and got together a few months ago. And now, here we are, the summer before college starts. Distance between our colleges is negligible, so that's alright. Anyhow, onto the gift. Now, we've talked about gift giving before, and we both agreed that it doesnt matter what we give eachother because we're completely happy just having eachother (cheesey sounding i know, but i wil say we honestly do feel that way). Now, neither of us are very wealthy since we're students, so I was told not to get her anything, and just spend time with her, but I want her birthday to be special. So, keeping affordability in mind, here's my idea. I'm very musically inclined and, if I do say so myself, rather advanced at playing the violin, piano, guitar, and trumpet. She's mentioned to me that she loves it when i play the violin. So my idea is for me to write and record a violin piece for her. The piece will consist of 6 separate sections, each one representing one of the years that I've known her. Each section will express the way I felt about her and how my feelings progressed in each of the respective years. I have experience with musical composition, so it will take time, but won't be overly difficult. Now then, anyone have any opinions on whether this is a good idea? Does anyone think I should add in something of more material worth? Is this a completely terrible idea? Please be open with criticism or suggestions. I want her birthday to be incredibly special.
thelipless Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 How long have you been dating? As long as you have been dating her for awhile now, I think its a wonderful idea.
Lyssa Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 I think it's a very sweet gift/gesture. You've known her for 6 years and for you to compose 6 sections of each year - superb! I'm sure she'll love it. Good luck!
