Has anyone tried the dating site It's Just Lunch? It's an agency that requires payment from both parties. I would like to know your comments if you've tried it before.

I know some of you would tell me about the non-paying dating sites but a friend drew my attention to this and I was wondering how good it is.

I haven't tried it personally, but I have friends who have. As far as men are concerned, their membership base is predominantly men 40+. This is probably due to the cost for the program ($1,600 or so for 6 dates, or something like that). So keep that in mind.

Thanks. Do you know what they think of the dates, apart from the age group? Like is it worth the money?

A friend of mine met her husband through It's Just Lunch - she lives in Southern California. She highly recommends it.

I have a friend who is currently using this service.

You have to sign up for a year and pay in cash up front. They don't make you any type of guarantees as to number of dates, etc. She gets like 1 or maybe 2 dates a month. Most of the men she's met have been older and typically unavailable- like they travel a lot for work.

I think the service has potential but she's been very unhappy based on the cost and what she's gotten out of it.

I do know. They haven't found it worth the money. But this may be because they're in their late 20's, early 30's, and ready to settle down, whereas the men in the membership are older and in a different place in their lives (no longer interested in marriage, and kids), and like SKJD said, unavailable (either due to work/play commitments, and also because they're sometimes playboys).

But if you have the cash easily available, why not?

Not cash easily available but I can afford the amount. I know it's not guaranteed but would at least like to meet some good people, at least as friends even if not lovers.

skjd1220, do you know if your friend gets one or two dates a month because of her date requirements? I don't mean she's picky but I'm trying to guage the agency's pool of candidates.

I don't think it's her requirements because honestly, most of the guys they set her up with don't meet her requirements anyhow. She generally has to call them and bug them before they set her up on another date. They are not very proactive about reaching out to her.

Interesting. I'm a man, 36 and interested in marriage and kids. I've been thinking about trying one of these services but I was afraid there wouldn't be any women in their late 20s or early 30s. It sounds like you have friends in this age range that are using this service?

I found theres free dating sites that have more people than the paid ones. A lot more.

plentyoffish.com

okcupid.com

Theres so many people on these two, and they actually respond, and many of them have graduate degrees, that I'd never pay money for a dating site again.

This may sound silly but I don't really want to place photos on free dating sites. It's not that I'm not confident of my looks but I don't really want people to know I'm using the service. I know, it sounds dumb. :p But that was why I wanted reviews of paying sites.

Some of my friends think that people who pay are more serious in wanting relationships. ;)

Those friends prolly didnt use any of the sites. I know from personal experience that there are MORE people on the free sites, and they are just as serious as the people who use the pay sites. Theres also no fake profiles generated and promoted by the free sites, because they arent driven by money to draw more people. The pay sites have obvious fakes, and alot of them to keep people hoping.

Everyone posts photos on the free sites? Is there any way to get around it but still get to meet people?

If you dont post photos, people will think you arent serious, and you wont get any responces. People dont want to be inconveinced by emailing you to see you. Theres too many other people on the site.

If youre too ashamed to put up pics on a dating site, then you should look for singles events in your area.

I haven't tried of it too but I have tried some dating sites that's worth trying.

Are they free sites or paying?

The only paid sites I ever tried was match and yahoo. I had some okay experiences. I got tired of paying to get dates though.

I've tried some free sites and I've come across people who are only interested in hooking up and aren't really serious in a real relationship. Not sure if others faced similar issues.

I have, but I also found guys who were looking for relationships. I think you'll get that with any site. There's always gonna be those guys looking to hook up, no matter which way you turn. They are out there trying to get what they want too LOL

Didn't care for the free websites, you get what you're paying for in a sense...I've heard of some websites where men pay and women are free, not sure if that works out better or not. I was thinking about It's Just Lunch, but I'm one of those 40something guys who travels for work, and has a busy life with tennis and golf. But, the difference is, I want to get married again.

Do you know which sites are where men pay and women use for free?

I hope you find your next wife soon! :)
