Do you feel that a deep connection -- intellectual and emotional -- is necessary for a successful relationship/marriage? In other words, do you feel that your partner needs to have a mind that works like yours, who completes your thoughts?

Or is it enough if they're smart, nice, attractive and otherwise compatible but you don't have an amazingly deep mental connection with them?

I'm on the fence about this one, and I don't think there's necessarily a right answer, but I'd love to hear other opinions. I have noticed many relationships where that component is missing, but both partners seem perfectly happy and compatible.

I used to feel that a deep connection was one of my core needs, but I'm starting to wonder, since I could always get that connection elsewhere -- through a friendship, for example.
