Never have I seen a relationship happen either with friends or people I know in which the older person is the female. I'm not talking about cougars, but women is just a few years younger than the man. It's always the man being older.

Someone care to explain why, because I'm pretty lost on the subject.

I think you mean the woman a few years OLDER. And that's not true - I've heard of this happening. And not "rare" exceptions. It's about as common, IMO, as the other way around.

But maybe it's because women mature emotionally faster than men do. I don't get along with guys that are younger than me. And honestly - my current BF is less than a year older than me and I have a hard time relating to his train of thought some times. LOL

But I have seen plenty of FEMALE posters on here that date men a year or more younger than them (and I'm not talking about cougars, either).

My ex wife was just under a year older than I.

no I went out with someone who was just a year younger than me. my mother's long-term partner is a year younger than her. a few years here or there don't bother anyone, not even worth mentioning

I married a woman a few years older than I - was with her for almost 20 years, and although now divorced, we continue to work together in parenting our children.

So if you accept that "Never have I seen..." just means "I haven't seen it" but not "it never happens," does that help ease your confusion?

It happens quite a lot in that it's not uncommon but it's not nearly as common as the other way around, at least specifically for marriage. Also the average difference was 'only' 4 years or so IIRC.

8+ years is not what he had in mind, I imagine. He said a FEW years. He was wondering why women only a FEW years older don't date men younger than themselves. 8+ is more than a "few."

I think as far as "dating" it's not uncommon at all, I'd say very common. I've certainly dated older women, particularly when I was much younger. Now at my age an older woman would be pretty effing old.

I probably should have made it more clear. For example, My best friend is 34 and his girlfriend is 30. I have another friend who is 19 and her boyfriend is 22. And then I know someone else who is 26 and his girlfriend is 22. I never met a couple that, say, the guy is 21 and the woman is 23, or, say the guy is 30 and the girl is 35.

Oh well.. just because you never met a couple where the woman was a few years older doesn't mean it's not uncommon. It is very common.

Fair enough. I'm just going by what I experience. I've been rejected by every woman older than me (some specifically because I was younger, blah), so every date has been with younger women.

This is pretty common practice, in that a few years is no big deal. Two of my female friends are married to men who are a few years younger than them. You can't tell and they don't trumpet it to the world, since it's a non-issue.

I will generalize and say that you'll probably see less of it, with teens and early twenties. By the time people hit mid-twenties and older, it rebalances more, since the average man/woman has caught up to the average woman/man, maturity wise.

that could be because they don't see you mature/independent enough for your age

I knew of a lady in her early fifties with a 28 year old. They owned a Pub together and were really good company. They had been together for a number of years too.

Love is love I suppose. I would have reservations if that was my son but as I said they were happy and good together. I liked them.

Take care,

Eve xx

Define couple. It definitely happens.

In my twenties I dated a guy who was 2 years younger than me for three years. This was in college, and it felt pretty rare at the time. I would never do it again either - he wasn't terribly immature but I do think it's significant that my next boyfriend was 6 years older.

I'll tell you something for free, ALL my gf's have ALWAYS been older than me.

Usually by 1 - 3.5 years....one of them was 5 year my senior .....Im 24 now....

I find women younger than me to be way to immature....

So it does happen!

Marriage is a different beast than dating. If you were talking marriage or even dating with a goal of marriage then I'd have to agree more with you.

I wouldn't. not all men view women as breeding stock

Nice to know, I'm just judging by actual measured statistics. Hope you get that anger management thing taken care of.
