ON MY OWN Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 I myself had an excellent relationship with my dad and wanted to take a moment in his memory (RIP) to honor him and all wonderful fathers as well!! Whether your dad is alive or deceased I would like for you to tell anything you think was special and ways you honor or honored him. Please share anything you feel is or was great about your dad/relationship with him whether it be things you did together or just how he was always there for you. I will post one to start us off and God Bless our fathers whether here or passed on. They always are in our hearts no matter what!! Thanks and enjoy the day and please feel free to post to this past today, I didnt want everyone thinking it was just a Fathers Day thing, lets take this thread and dedicate it to these wonderful men and post as often is any of us want or think of anything at all!! Thanks, I myself appreciate any feedback on this. It was more sweet than anyone can ever put into words the kind of love my dad gave to me as well as taught me!:bunny::bunny:
Trialbyfire Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 What a great idea for a thread! My Dad will always be my hero, in that he's always been there for everyone in the family, especially me, his little princess!
Author ON MY OWN Posted June 21, 2009 Author Posted June 21, 2009 My dad was truly a remarkable man. In my eyes as a kid he was perfect to me. I always felt safe and loved. As I grew older he taught me right from wrong with a firm yet patient and loving sort of way that is almost impossible to ever duplicate. He saved me from myself countless times as a teenager without ever judging or saying "I told you so". He ( along w/ my mother (RIP) )taught me compassion and understanding, acceptance and patience. For that I thank you for daddy. Sometimes I think he knew and wanted me to learn my own lessons in life to become stronger. He and my mother truly live on in me. When I had a job and locked my keys in my car in the middle of a snowstorm, guess who had the other set? You guessed it!! DAD! He was the one who came out and saved me, without once ever acting like he was being put out or making me feel stupid ever!! During my teen years I would use a curling iron that would get hairspray build up on it, he took it upon himself to take it into the garage and clean it off with some cleaner he kept in the garage and then put it back. I would go in to curl my hair and I was like OMG what happened? LOL!! It made me know my dad truly cared about me as his own baby girl. No matter how old I get ( I am in my thirties now ) they always used to call me their baby and their baby girl. As well as have a few nick names that were especially for me. Oh how special!!! They ALWAYS made me feel like the most special, important part of their lives!! I miss them dearly!!! R I P ~ DADDY R I P ~ MOM MAY YOU TWO REST IN PEACE TOGETHER ETERNALLY!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TEACHING ME ABOUT LIFE AND LOVE!! I LEARNED AND HOLD DEAR SO MUCH MORE THAN YOU BOTH COULD EVER HAVE REALIZED HERE ON EARTH!!! I LOVE YOU BOTH AND WILL TALK TO YOU AS I ALWAYS DO!!! THANK YOU FOR BEING MY GUARDIAN ANGELS JUST AS YOU SAID YOU WOULD MOM!! ITS HARD BEING WITHOUT YOU BOTH IN THE FLESH AND I TAKE GREAT PEACE AND CONTENTMENT KNOWING YOU BOTH ARE STILL THERE!! ~ I MISS YOU BOTH SO MUCH ~ LOVE ALWAYS, YOUR BABY FOREVER!!! ~

Trialbyfire Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 We're taking not only my Dad out for dinner tonight, but all the dads in our extended family unit, including S.'s dad. It's going to be a mad house but fun!
Ariadne Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 I don't know if I should call my father. It's not Father's Day over there and he can get weirded out. Like, why is she calling? But then, I never know when Father's Day is over there since it changes every year.

Jilly Bean Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 My Dad has been battling cancer for a few years now, and he has ALWAYS been the most important person in my life. We are very, very close, and identical in mentality, temperament, sense of humor, food tastes, etc. He's more like my twin. lol Basically, I adore the man, and would do anything in the world for him. I consider every day I get to see him, and talk to him, and have him in my life to be nothing less than a total blessing. Watching him fight the fight has been both completely torturous and inspiring at the same time. OP - my Dad still has the same childhood nicknames for me that he did when I was 3. I get you on that, and your post was very touching. Now I have to go cry.
Lyssa Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 I love my daddy . He's truly my hero! He has always been strict but with me, I usually get my way .
Lyssa Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 My Dad has been battling cancer for a few years now, and he has ALWAYS been the most important person in my life. Your father sounds like a strong man, Jilly! We are very, very close, and identical in mentality, temperament, sense of humor, food tastes, etc. He's more like my twin. lol My father and I have the same sense of humour (at times, I can't help but tell him that he's really lame). When I was small, I used to eat every single thing he ate - cause I liked how people say I'm his daddy's lil girl . It's cool that he's like your twin, JB!

I adore him, and yes, he's a tough cookie. The treatments have not been fun at times. When I was little, people would ask me who I was going to marry when I grew up, and I always said, "Daddy!". Were you the same way? And I think I'm still single because part of me meant it. Like I really want to find a guy that's just like my Dad, and he's tough to find, lemme tell ya!
Ariadne Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Did you ever end up calling your dad? Hehe, no. But I actually looked it up online when Father's Day was over there this year, and it turns out to be July 12th. I'll call him then.

We are very, very close, and identical in mentality, temperament, sense of humor, food tastes, etc. He's more like my twin. lol Sorry about your father's illness. But funny thing, I'm exactly like my father also. Like a twin as well. My mother says all the time, almost mad, you are just like your father! Even the weirdest tastes are the same, we like the same trees, same flowers, make the same gestures, and look like copy cat. But.... we think the exact opposite! Exactly 180 degrees opposite and that's why we never got along very well. I'm completely unconventional and kind of a rebel, and he is square as it gets and controlling.
Ariadne Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 He'll like that. I hope so. Good thing about thinking you'll marry your dad. I never thougth of that (he wouldn't marry me in a million years).

As a child I wanted to - yes. As an adult, I'd love to find someone with the same traits. (Dad's already got a wife, named Mom, and we don't live in Tennessee, so this kind of thing wouldn't fly well... )
Ariadne Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 LOL. As a child I wanted to - yes. As an adult, I'd love to find someone with the same traits. Well, if I found someone with the same traits as mine I'd give him a heart attack in no time. (My mom says the second-to-last time I visted.. they almost buried my dad lol)

My fiance is so much like my dad - it's not even funny! Just looking at the way he treats his children, you can tell . You'll find one, JB - for sure! I don't think you father would let you settle for less!

Lyssa Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 One thing I am glad is that my fiance doesn't have my dad's temper!
