9Lives Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 i am working on changing my mindset and I have been told that daily affirmation change your belief and sends positive energy to the universe creating the positive results in your life. Along with positive visualizations as well. Has anyone used affirmations often?
Thornton Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 My bf does this and he swears that it works. Myself, I think that positive affirmations change your own state of mind and make you more likely to achieve positive results. In any case, knowing exactly what you want can't be a bad thing!
quankanne Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 is this the same as "the power of positive thinking"? If so, then a whole-hearted yes! a great place to start is George Foreman's book, Going the Extra Smile ... very simply written, with everything starting with a smile. Great stuff, not hokey or dumb, but something every person can do to make a difference in their own lives
Ruby Slippers Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 I did both written and spoken affirmations once as part of a creativity course, and I found it to be VERY effective. It's true that you eventually become confident in what you are saying, which should be stuff that you know about yourself deep down, but might have trouble keeping top of mind.
Trialbyfire Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Perception is everything. If you believe you can accomplish something within reason, you'll do it. If you want to self-sabotage your efforts, you'll do it! Whether you're actually fueling and being fueled by some transcendental existential plane, I'm not going to go there...
Ronni_W Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 When used as part of a broader personal development program, affirmations do work but there's a bit of an art and a science behind it. This article offers the basics: http://affirmations.homestead.com/ If we're just reciting words without deeply 'feeling' them, or saying the words while thinking about something else...then affirmations aren't too powerful. As TBF says, it's also important what you hold in your mind the 99.9% of the time that you're not doing your 'affirmation work'. Best of luck.
hey_beautiful Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 I do believe something like this could work, but I have personally never tried it. I can imagine that if you said something like "I am the most gorgeous creature on the planet" to yourself everyday, it may boost self confidence, but it might also create an enlarged ego. I will read more about it. It interests may, and may be helpful in my own quest.

I will read more about it. It interests may, and may be helpful in my own quest. I just started using it and it is really really really working. I do it early in the morning and I am finding that my whole additude and outlook on life has changed for the good and I am less stress out. Affirmations are good for the soul. I would seriously consider learning more about it.
hey_beautiful Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 I just don't know what to say. I don't really feel down on myself, but I don't actually feel really happy or really positive. But maybe waking up and saying "Today, I am happy. Today I am positive" it may work.
Ruby Slippers Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 I can imagine that if you said something like "I am the most gorgeous creature on the planet" to yourself everyday, it may boost self confidence, but it might also create an enlarged ego. My creativity affirmations were things like: "I, Ruby Slippers, am a creative and innovative artist." This is true. And there's a real power in reminding yourself of such a truth every day. I didn't grow to think I'm THE most creative and innovative artist on the planet, just that I am one of them.
