mammax3 Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 When do these words get tossed around? Who says them first? Does it depend on exclusivity (implied or otherwise)? Thanks. I feel close enough to him to call him these affections, but haven't yet.
MWC_LifeBeginsAt40 Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I pretty much use baby or sexy and he does the same. My last bf always had to be so "official" he wanted us to come up with names for each other. I was fine with anything that stayed away from terms about my butt (honeybuns... ewww). I like being called sweetie, sexy, love, baby, all the sweet and cute stuff. Put the question out there for the guys... What do you like to be called?
ruggy Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Wouldn't know. Hasn't happened.. I guess my first name would do.
SoulSearch_CO Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Wouldn't know. Hasn't happened.. I guess my first name would do. Awww. That's sad. Are you serious? You've never been called cutesy names? In response to the OP - no, it doesn't indicate exclusivity. I had a FWB that called me cutesy names. LOL That was confusing. But anyway - I can't remember who started saying them first in any of my relationships. I think because I was holding back in my most current relationship at the beginning, it was probably him. I want to say the first one was probably "babe." He calls me that most often. We use sweetie, babe/baby, honey.

Island Girl Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Honey is the one used most often. He greets me with "How you doin' baby." when I call him. But when I want to make his heart melt all I have to say is "My Love". He'll say,"I have a question" and I'll sometimes I answer with, "yes, My Love?" It usually catches him off guard and makes him hesitate and I can feel his heart soaring. I love that.
burningashes Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 He calls me babe and it makes me smile when he does that. I call him that too, but sometimes will change that out with sexy. I actually asked him earlier today what made him start calling me Babe, because it wasn't long after we started seeing each other that he started calling me that. He said that he didn't know, other than to make me his babe
zilverenvlinder Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 MWC...that's so crazy...my boyf calls me cute stuff and I didn't think anyone else used that term...LOL. Guess I was wrong.
EddieN Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 I'd never call a girl those things (unless it was a joke) and I wouldn't like to be called them either. On a side note, me mum always said that when couples over-use those terms, you know there's really a problem behind the peachiness.
sally4sara Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 These words are infected! Refrain from using these word in the English language. If you know a language other than English, use it instead for safety. Go watch Pontypool for more info.....
Thornton Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Being British, I have a whole range of affectionate words I could use for my bf... hinney, cariad, ducks, bonny lad... and I also call him some random names like bobbin, bug, chick... as well as the usual stuff like handsome, sweetheart, beloved, sweety-pie... He always laughs when I call him my Squishy though
Trialbyfire Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 sally, you're starting to freak me out with that pontypool thing! Think of it this way, if you use pet names, then trade partners, you don't have to worry about confusing their names!

Great film!
Trialbyfire Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontypool_(film) In particular, sweet talk, baby talk and all terms of endearment are dangerously infected! Great film! There are three stages to this virus. The first stage is you might begin to repeat a word. Something gets stuck. And usually it's words that are terms of endearment like sweetheart or honey. The second stage is your language becomes scrambled and you can't express yourself properly. The third stage you become so distraught at your condition that the only way out situation you feel, as an infected person, is to try and chew your way through the mouth of another person. I dunno. Is that a disease or love? Or is love a disease?
missdependant Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Started calling my bf "Bunny" about 4 months after we started dating.. don't know where it came from. But it's stuck, and he responds to the name now. LOL. He just calls me babe. He doesn't call my name often.. usually it's if he wants something. Like if he's too lazy to get out of bed and get a glass of water lol. Endearing, in my opinion.
quankanne Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 an older friend of ours had called, then asked about my husband ... "How's your honey-baby?" he wanted to know. and it's pretty much stuck. happy anniversary, honey-baby ... 17 years and I ain't killed ya yet!
