I went out with a guy a couple of weeks ago and we kissed (it was our first date). I was really excited because it was my first kiss but now I am experiencing the first symptoms of herpes and even doctors say I have nothing (my doctor prescribed me an anti-herpes treatment though!) I am sure to have it. He says he doesn't have it but I know that some people aren't aware that they carry the virus. I am very upset about this thing. I have dermatitis too and I know that I might have a lot of troubles with Herpes. I don't know if to continue this relationship :(! I like him very much. It so unfair to get an STD right after the first kiss!!! Should I leave him?

Oral herpes is not an STD unless it's on your genitals. Do you know what the letters "STD" stand for? SEXUALLY-Transmitted Disease. French kissing isn't sex.

Not only that, maybe you should talk to your doctor about being a hypochondriac. I'm being serious. To be SO worried about something without justification can't be healthy. If anything, I'd be more concerned about meningitis (you know you can catch that easily, too, right?) or swine flu...if I were to worry at all.

I wouldn't worry about it so much.

When I was little, I used to get coldsores all the time from my Dad. Probably when he gave us goodnight kisses or something like that, because he used to get them when we went skiing. We were always careful with lipsalve and towels and stuff, but when you live so close to someone and you're little it's more difficult. As an adult, I am worried about getting them (because they are so uncomfortable!) but I haven't had one for years - touch wood!

It's also different to genital herpes and it isn't and STD. I seriously would suggest not getting so stressed about it and taking a medicated cream on the area until you are sure that it is not coming back.

I concur with the others, oral herpes is not only no big deal, but it's said that we will all eventually get it if we live long enough. I've had it since I was a young child.
