Truly Lost Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 I prefer short hair on guys. Long hair is fine on men, but if I'm in the dating scene I would be more responsive to a guy with short trimmed hair. My sister loves long hair on guys and prefers those guys, but she has often experienced that most of those guys turned out to be losers with low paying jobs. She still checks out guys with long hair, but proceeds with caution. If she dates a guy with short hair and they hit it off, to where they are in a relationship, she usually asks if they would consider growing there hair out. I think generally when women are dating they look for a man who is well groomed and short hair fits in that catagory. I think this mainly because a man who is employed will most likely have to cut his hair short because of dress code policies at their work. I'm not saying all woman are gold diggers, but lets be real, who wants to date somone who is broke and could potentially be a mooch. I think long hair sometimes will send the message that the guy might not take his career seriously and have a low paying job or may possibly not have a job at all. I know you can't judge a book by it's cover, but guys put a lot of emphasis on a woman's appearance and will pass up a great girl for being overweight, or not have the right hair color, or they dress too frumpy, or too provocatively. All these things can be altered so you have to decide if you want to alter yourself to find someone quickly or keep yourself who you are and wait for the right person to come along.
t0ri Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 I loove shaggy hair! Hair below the chin is too much for me though.
Maxis Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 I personally have long-ish hair. It's about shoulder length and I can just about lick the front when I the front bangs down straight, but I always keep it clean and styled, as well as generally out of my face. I get compliments on it from girls all the time. Hardly any criticism has come my way. But yea, it really depends on the girl. My girlfriend does not care about my hair length. She likes both. When it's longer, she says it's nice running her hands through it. When it's shorter, she says it looks sophisticated. So, my 2 cents, just go with what you like personally. If the girl doesn't like you just because of your hair length...well...forget it. I will say, however, that if you decide to keep your hair long, that you need to keep it clean and probably preferably styled. Girls always tell me that they like my hair long because it's clean and styled, whereas a lot of guys with longer hair seem to leave it all over their faces and neglect hygiene. Anyhow, good luck with whatever choice you make.

She still checks out guys with long hair, but proceeds with caution. that's too bad. i suppose the numbers are against her--after all you do need good hair to grow it out. guys who aren't balding are usually younger, early twenties, still at university and don't have much money. nothing wrong with that; unless that isn't what you're looking for. If she dates a guy with short hair and they hit it off, to where they are in a relationship, she usually asks if they would consider growing there hair out. I think this mainly because a man who is employed will most likely have to cut his hair short because of dress code policies at their work. this strikes me as blatantly discriminatory and something out of the 1950's. if there aren't any already, there should be laws against this. it's not impossible to wear your hair long and be well-groomed at the same time. I'm not saying all woman are gold diggers, but lets be real, who wants to date somone who is broke and could potentially be a mooch. I think long hair sometimes will send the message that the guy might not take his career seriously and have a low paying job or may possibly not have a job at all. this would only apply to those who already hold this prejudice. personally i'm not too bothered about it; saves me from having to deal with these chicas in the first place I know you can't judge a book by it's cover, but guys put a lot of emphasis on a woman's appearance and will pass up a great girl for being overweight, or not have the right hair color, or they dress too frumpy, or too provocatively. all things being equal All these things can be altered so you have to decide if you want to alter yourself to find someone quickly or keep yourself who you are and wait for the right person to come along. the latter is obviously the better choice. would anyone--man or woman--really want to get mixed up with someone who isn't truly being themselves ?
blind_otter Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 I wanted to get a concensus from people, particularly women, about longer hair on guys. Do you find it attractive, and if so what particular styles do you like? I could use a bit of inspiration since I've let it go uncut for so long. Personally I find long hair on men singularly unattractive. I don't want someone who will steal my hair products, or even worse, someone who has long hair but doesn't use hair products. Frizz city.
Author EddieN Posted July 9, 2009 Author Posted July 9, 2009 Seems like the opinion on this topic is pretty split. I forsee myself buzzing my head sometime soon. I even had a dream about doing it last night. Here are the pros and cons of having long or short hair: Long Pros: -Not many other guys have it - unique looking -Fits being a musician -Covers my big ass ears and balances out my hooknose...aka fits my face well Long Cons: -Turns away many girls who want clean cut -Harder to maintain, costs more shampoo -Gets in my eyes while driving -Looks girly when I have to brush it back every few minutes -Can give the stoner image to people Short Pros: -Easier to maintain -More manly/badass -Feels cool -Probably more attractive and more clean cut Short Cons: -Unoriginal - don't want to look like every other meathead guy I see walking around -Might look really weird on me
shadowplay Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Before I finally decide to get it cut, I'm going to cut a mullet first and look like I just came from 1985 in a DeLorean. As I mentioned in the beginning, my hair isn't THAT long, but long compared to most guys. It's long and brown like this guy's - http://coolmenshair.com/2008/10/ben-barnes-hairstyles.html But isn't as smooth, more wavy like RUssel Crowe in this pic: http://bp2.blogger.com/_XAePxwGya7E/R57xTviY9VI/AAAAAAAAAu0/Arq-NP2ToVY/s400/russell_crowe3.jpg I always shave, btw...for the last few months at least. fishtaco said that there are some women that prefer long and others that prefer short. The way I see it is most guys are going to have short hair and only a few will have longer hair. One reason I like long hair is it distinguishes me from the countless generic haircuts most guys my age have. It's something different. No idea if I'm model material, but I'm 6' 2", 200 lbs and pretty lean. Think that's enough to get away with long hair? Depends on the guy, his age and whether he has all his hair. For a young guy who has a nice head of hair, I like a cut that has some length but wouldn't be described as quite long: http://photobucket.com/albums/v473/antiquecorset/Journal%20Crap/orange.jpg Enough so you can run your hands through it but not so long that it looks greasy, sleazy or effeminate. There are some young guys who simply look bad with hair even this long because of their face shape and coloring. Usually blonds seem to look better with short cuts. Also curly/wavy hair looks better short.
shadowplay Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 This thread is not complete without a link homage to at least one long-haired hottie... http://www.sweet-catastrophe.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/johnny-depp-07.jpg That's a little long for my liking, though. This is better: http://www.babble.com/CS/blogs/famecrawler/2008/12/23-End%20of%20Month/johnny_depp_10.jpg

My mom would be really pissed if I got it cut...like to the point where she would fight with me for a while, but she's still living in the 70's.

It's your hair, but if it's as long as the links you posted, I might try cutting it a few inches. Still leave enough to grab on top like the pictures I posted, and don't style it in douche spikes: http://img103.imageshack.us/img103/2842/db1056ny5.jpg How old are you btw?
Author EddieN Posted July 9, 2009 Author Posted July 9, 2009 Holy guido batman! I'm 20. Thing is, I'm really curious to see how I look with mad short hair, because I've had relatively long hair for as long as I can remember.
T0psp0T Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Short or long hair girls, what's it gonna be? =)? I am curious as to what you think looks better on me, as most of my friends have different opinions! Thanks a bunch! Short hair: http://nl.tinypic.com/r/2ijrz1w/3 http://nl.tinypic.com/r/2f064go/3 Semi-long hair: http://nl.tinypic.com/r/t89t9u/3 http://nl.tinypic.com/r/2s99co8/3 Long hair: http://nl.tinypic.com/r/14mgnbq/3 Yeah, I know the last photo is just awesome, but please just comment on the hair, will ya? =P X
Author EddieN Posted July 14, 2009 Author Posted July 14, 2009 Well obviously I'm not a woman, but I think the middle-length photos look the best on you, particularly the first mid-length picture. The second one has that faux hawk thing, which makes your head look more like a douche, literally and figuratively. But honestly, all of those pictures are in the realm of short hair to me, with the last being more medium-short. That's definitely not long.

Truly Lost Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Hey, I think you are a cutie with any of those styles, but I still prefer short to long. The very short and short/medium styles suit you best. The long....it's ok, but honestly the long style makes you look younger, a little more kiddish (not sure if that is the best word to use). Just my opinion.
