EddieN
I've been going for about a year with significantly longer hair. (I realize long is a relative term, so let me give some context - my hair length right now is long enough so that I can pull my front-most lochs it to my chin.) I like my longer hair. I think it fits me well and I have good rich hair to pull it off. I'm considering getting it cut though, or at least trimmed and tidied up (I haven't gotten it cut since December, and that was just to clean it up). I feel like it's gone on long enough and I might want a change, but I'm honestly having trouble deciding. I wanted to get a concensus from people, particularly women, about longer hair on guys. Do you find it attractive, and if so what particular styles do you like? I could use a bit of inspiration since I've let it go uncut for so long.
kizik
Not a chick, but I say cut it. Men should look like men.
Citizen Erased
I prefer shorter hair. It just makes the guy look more put together. Long hair looks messy and has a kind of stonerish vibe.
Author EddieN
Not a chick, but I say cut it. Men should look like men. Kind of like this guy? http://mnfilmtv.org/mndialog/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/rambo.jpg I prefer shorter hair. It just makes the guy look more put together. Long hair looks messy and has a kind of stonerish vibe. The stoner stereotype is definitely a con. I've only done pot a few times, and that was when I had shorter hair! It's a silly stereotype, but unfortunately it exists, and I should take it into consideration.
MineThatBird
Depends on the person and the shape of their face. The thing about styling hair is that it isn't one size fits all. What may fit Andi Muise (long hair) for instance may not fit Agyness Deyn (short hair); both super-cute women with differently shaped faces. For the men reading this, I recommend asking girlfriends who have an exquisite taste in clothing/ hair where they go to get their hair done because they know what's up. Like I've said before and I'll say it again, finding a great stylist is like finding a great mechanic, they're for life.
TheBigQuestion
If you want female attention, you generally want short hair. Unless your primary targets are females in the heavy metal community. Then keep it long.
nothappyjan
I'm a 23yr old female and i am not at all attracted to guys with long hair I like clean cut, shaven guys.....but thats just my 2c
colosseum
What about the suave European look like in all those Bond movies, ladies? As a dude, I'm far from that myself and would not (could not) pull that look off. Just curious though, hehe.
fishtaco
Some guys can pull it off, some guys can't. I have long hair, I let it grow pass my butt, then I cut off 13 inches to donate to Locks of Love, then it takes about 2 years to grow that long again. Some women don't like men with long hair. It turns them off. Some women love men with long hair. When women hit on me they usually talk about my hair first as an ice breaker. Sometimes as I walk by they'll give my hair a little tug, then I'd turn around and have a conversation with them. So you lose the short hair crowd, but you gain the long hair crowd. From that perspective, no loss no gain. But like I said you do have an easy topic for strangers to start a conversation with. Heavy metal chicks won't like you just because you have long hair. They usually are at least okay with men with long hair. But you need more than that to be "metal". I used to be a headbanger, I know. BTW, some heavy metal chicks are HAWT!!!! Low percentage, but the ones that are, absolutely smokin' hot. For better or for worse, it makes you more memorable. Although it does have the negative connotation that I'm a weed smoking slacker, or a poor musician. People are surprised to find out I'm smarter than the average bear (slightly), I never smoked weed, or even cigarettes for that matter, and I have a job that pays $100k a year. I've had women that thought I wasn't good enough for them, until they find out I'm comparable to all the other big city yuppies, I just choose to have long hair and not drive a $70k BMW. Maybe in that sense it would be a disadvantage, but for me I consider that an excellent filter. Most women don't care. Even if they don't like men with long hair, if you show good quality, they'll consider you anyway. Ones dead set against long hair are balanced out by the ones that love long hair. prettybaby
Depends on the guy and the hair we're talking about. I think I'd need to see a picture. That being said, longer hair on a guy is something that would have made me melt between the age of 15 and 20 max ... I'm 26 now, and I can't say it does much for me. I don't like super short hair either (like, almost shaved), but I prefer shorter. Tastes change. I think younger girls still tend to fall more for longer hair than women past the age of 20. Intricategirl
The type of guy I usually fall for has no hair. Shaved, almost to the point of being bic'd. But short hair is okay too. I don't typically care for long hair, and think it's an extremely rare guy that can pull it off. And sad to say, but he's got to have the male model thing going for him. Exquisite skin, pretty tall, chiseled body, etc. LOL Now that I think about it, I guess I'm saying I can tolerate long hair if everything else is absolutely perfect. lol
Thornton
It depends on the guy... if you're talking Brad Pitt in Troy then hell yeah, long hair looks sexy! It depends whether long hair suits you or not; on some guys it looks soo unbelievably sexy, while on other guys it just looks like they need a haircut.

Author EddieN
I MULLETS!!! :lmao: Before I finally decide to get it cut, I'm going to cut a mullet first and look like I just came from 1985 in a DeLorean. As I mentioned in the beginning, my hair isn't THAT long, but long compared to most guys. It's long and brown like this guy's - http://coolmenshair.com/2008/10/ben-barnes-hairstyles.html But isn't as smooth, more wavy like RUssel Crowe in this pic: http://bp2.blogger.com/_XAePxwGya7E/R57xTviY9VI/AAAAAAAAAu0/Arq-NP2ToVY/s400/russell_crowe3.jpg I always shave, btw...for the last few months at least. fishtaco said that there are some women that prefer long and others that prefer short. The way I see it is most guys are going to have short hair and only a few will have longer hair. One reason I like long hair is it distinguishes me from the countless generic haircuts most guys my age have. It's something different. The type of guy I usually fall for has no hair. Shaved, almost to the point of being bic'd. But short hair is okay too. I don't typically care for long hair, and think it's an extremely rare guy that can pull it off. Think that's enough to get away with long hair?
playlislay
My ex had lengthy hair, it looked messy but I couldnt resist running my hands through it He looked rather sexy with it long, well, in my eyes anyway. Plus it adds character! )
gopher
Guys like me who are losing their hair look terrible with it long....I keep mine very short...usually have the barber use a clippers on it.
Author EddieN
Guys like me who are losing their hair look terrible with it long....I keep mine very short...usually have the barber use a clippers on it. Makes sense. If I started to lose my hair I'd probably go really short too. That probably isn't happening anytime soon, though (especially considering my dad is nearing his 60's and still has a full head of hair).
Trialbyfire
Short hair...PLSE! It shows off the masculinity of a man's face. Even my fiance's hair is a little long on top. I've dated men who've had longer hair, as in as long as that Russell Crowe pic. Never really liked it, though. Just liked the men, as a package deal.

Author EddieN
Well, tonight I'm going to get it cut for the first time since December. It's going to stay long for now, but it's going to be cleaner. I think I look pretty goofy with short hair. I just was thinking of getting a full cut because it would be easier to clean, comb, etc.
Ruby Slippers
Wow, I guess I am the only girl here who likes longer hair. I think shorter can look good, too, but I do not like it when it's too short and there's no sexy bedhead to play with.
Jilly Bean
On a dude, I think it looks skanky, feminine, and like you can't be bothered to maintain proper grooming. I find long hair on men to be a huge turnoff, and wouldn't look twice at a guy with long hair. Then again, if you're trying to attract rocker chicks, I suppose it's the way to go. lol

I think shorter can look good, too, but I do not like it when it's too short and there's no sexy bedhead to play with. Not really. LS is not a fair cross section of what's out there. My personal experience is that most women don't care, then followed by women that have a preference but it's not a deal breaker, then lastly the hardcore short hair is about the same as the hardcore long hair. I've known this chick for a long time. I've always flirted with her just for fun (I'd have sex with her, but I wouldn't date her), but she was never interested in me. She mentioned something about not liking guys with long hair, plus I'm not tall enough for her (I'm 5'10", but she's a big girl). Well now many years later, I happened to have made the decision to become muscular, so I've been hitting the weights and chugging protein shakes for a number of years, and despite my inferior genetics, I have put on some muscle. Suddenly now she thinks I'm attractive. I guess the height and hair weren't that big of a deal after all. It took getting more muscular to tip the scale. Usually that's the most negative that you'll face -- it's only part of the equation. So to the OP. Do what you like. As long as you do it with style, you can get women. If one isn't interested in you, there are plenty more out there.
