Els Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Will be going away for a few days to a place without internet -- cellphones should HOPEFULLY work, although probably not always. Worst thing is I don't even know when I'll be free so I can't arrange times to call him! And I realized how much I've been taking Skype and our webcams for granted. I turned Skype on just now, just to watch him sleep, because I know I won't be seeing any of it for the next few days. To all those who've been doing this all the time -- you guys rock. Seriously. I've no idea how you do it or how I could do it for the long-term, but you're strong enough to. Your partners are the luckiest people in the world to have someone like you.
Lucky_One Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Assuming cell phones work, do you have a cell plan that includes internet access? I use my phone all day to check emails (and news and weather and stocks!).

It makes me feel normal! You get used to the days when you have to find a way around cam and Skype. He has a really bad internet connection and I rarely see him at all anymore. It's awful but I manage. Keep your phone on hand. Make sure you have a good idea of when you will speak and if you cannot, you can write. If you cannot send him mail then just wait and read it all to him later. Take pictures. How long will you be away?
Author Els Posted June 8, 2009 Author Posted June 8, 2009 Well, I'm back, and quite a bit poorer in terms of phone credit. Fortunately I managed to keep myself occupied most of the time so it wasn't too bad. Still, I could never imagine how I'd survive doing this long term. Those of you who manage it are seriously strong.
