sb129 Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Hey thanks for that tip B-O I just found out what meconium was the other day- its all a learning curve! I heard the same thing about sleep sacks and gowns with drawstring bottoms being easier to change babies during the night. Some days I am sooooo excited about our baby and other days I am BRICKING it.
blind_otter Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Hey thanks for that tip B-O I just found out what meconium was the other day- its all a learning curve! S/O was holding our son right after he was born and when he handed the baby back to me, he had a little piece of poo sticking to his stomach. How cute. Some days I am sooooo excited about our baby and other days I am BRICKING it. Well, that pretty much describes parenthood. You never lose that ambivalence. But the good times are so, so worth it. Oh, if breastfeeding I liked using the boppy pillow for the first few months before baby can hold their head up. Some women seemed to like the "Breastfriend pillow"
Just Angel Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Congrats daddy-to-be =D Im due for baby #7 in about 2 weeks. =) Must-haves for me have been: baby pouch/mei tai/sling carrier (I personally dont like structured pack carriers and prefer a simple fabric sling) Stroller Swing car seat rocking chair fan (white noise) lights and motion crib mobile crib mattress cover and sheets Diaper bag "Butt paste" diaper cream jojoba oil (diaper changes and massage) wipes (I make my own) wipe warmer (not essential but oh-so nice to have) baby wash receiving blankets (also used for burp cloths) Boppy pillow (another just nice to have when nursing) nursing pads several different types of binkys/pacifiers if you plan on using them Nightgowns for sure. I like the ones with elastic at the bottom over the drawstring type. t-shirts for the first week, onsies beyond that more baby socks than you think you'll need (maybe its just me that loses them constantly) hats "what to expect the first year" is a great, helpful book.
Author TudorII Posted June 17, 2009 Author Posted June 17, 2009 Thanks for the additional tips. BO I heard a similar tip to the olive oil but with vaseline. But seems to be common tip for the sticky poop! We got all registered so now we wait and see what we get so I know what I need to go buy. I also started a journal about my journey of becoming a farther that I will keep through the years and capture the milestones of my daughter growin up from my eyes. I hope to give it to her later in life perhaps when she becomes pregnant with her first. But I can think of no better gift to give her then this.
Art_Critic Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Don't forget the "Push" present for your wife .. I bought my wife a beautiful pair of earrings in the baby's gemstone, She looks so proud when she wears them... I think the thing that caught me off guard was the sheer number of diapers you "Actually" use.. The books say 5-6 a day.. hahahahahaha We have a pooper.. he went thru 12-15 diapers a day.. So a pack of 76 only lasted less than a week Now isn't too bad.. at almost 17 months he only goes thru about 6-7 a day.. and the formula.. I wasn't prepared for the cost of that.. 6-7 bucks a bottle and he could drink a bit more than 1 a day... Stock up.... you can never have too much of anything...
sb129 Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Don't forget the "Push" present for your wife .. I bought my wife a beautiful pair of earrings in the baby's gemstone, She looks so proud when she wears them... . Well done you AC- I mentioned this to my H and his reaction was "What do i get?" and went on about how it was a ridiculous idea, and how the reward was a beautiful baby and all that. I think it freaked him out because my BFF got Tiffany earrings as a pushing present. After I pointed out that his "push" lasted less than a minute and mine could last for a few days, AND after several people including his mother told him he absolutely HAD to get me a present and not to be so ridiculous he is coming round to the idea- but no tiffany earring! I am pretty sure he is slightly in denial about labour and birth and once he sees it all happen he will change his tune- if he doesn't pass out that is!! Only thing is- we have joint finances, so anything he buys me I am technically buying myself too... oh well.
Art_Critic Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 I think it freaked him out because my BFF got Tiffany earrings as a pushing present. That's where I got hers at too..... Don't worry about the combined finances... it's something all guys should do for their wives for bringing the most precious of all gifts into the world... Why not give him some hints on what kind of present you would want ?
sb129 Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 I already did......... Tiffany earrings!!!!! To match my engagement ring... Small problem is that there is only one Tiffany store in this whole country. I would also like a nice watch. We have had quite a lean time lately, financially, perhaps I chose the wrong time to bring it up.
Sassy Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 So as a first time dad to be I find myself wondering what all do we need to get. But more importantly than what all the books say, what are the things that you have found to most helpful, useful, not necessary, etc. This is anything from bottles to bedding, etc. Seems like there are so many list out there which include the basics but I'm really looking for for some feedback on things that maybe aren't on the standdard lists. Congrats!! we are going to be grandparents around October 15th to a baby girl . My stepson from my h's previous relationship !! Kensley will be a yr old in a month. You got the basic stuff. Lots of diapers and wipes come in handy all sizes!! Is anyone giving you baby showers? You will need alot of oonesies and sleepers . Hooded towels and wash cloths. Receiving blankets , stroller ,infant careseat So what are you naming her? My stepson is naming their baby girl Aubrey Naveah !! Middle name is heaven backwards ..
