missmich Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Germans are not that different then Americans are really. I spent a good bit of time in Germany as an au pair and it was a lot of fun.

WineCountry Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Has anyone here dated a German guy? Is there anything one needs to have in mind when dating one? Thanks! No clue, but can you ask him how to spell Snitzchel? Or whatever..
burning 4 revenge Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 ANd if hes got an aggressive temper, don't just acquiesce to all his initial demands for the sake of peace And be suspicious of all agreements, even ones in writing..especailly if they deal with the division of assets in any sort of way
kostoronto Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Never help him come up with the final solution to the Jewish problem. He might write a book on that.
WineCountry Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 And for Pete's sake, dont let him grow that foolish mustache.
kostoronto Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 On the facial hair note, don't believe him when he says he's growing it because of his love for Charlie Chaplin. Oh, and comb overs are soooooo 20th Century.
norajane Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 I work for a German company. The German are always on time. Very punctual. And straight forward - they don't beat around the bush, which can sometimes come off as insensitive.
kostoronto Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Never let him Blitzkreig on your face. Leaves a mark.
filh Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Germans are straight-forward. But do not make Nazi jokes with them.
burning 4 revenge Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Germans are straight-forward. But do not make Nazi jokes with them. yeah .....straight forward into Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, The Ukraine etc
kostoronto Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Don't forget the Rhineland and Sudetenland. Neville Chamberlain did...
WineCountry Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Don't forget the Rhineland and Sudetenland. Neville Chamberlain did... You know..you people are something else. This poor woman came on here and asked a simple question. A simple, honest question. And what did you people do??? You made jokes. You just HAD to find senseless humor in............. wait......what's that?? What.....? Uh....... I gotta go I hear the guards coming!!!!! #$%!!
filh Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 yeah .....straight forward into Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, The Ukraine etc *sigh* I give up
Girlygirl1977 Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 It's horrible to generalize but I have dated a German guy before and I agree they are very straightforward. As a culture, I find many have slightly dark senses of humor. Some of the men seem to be more in touch with their feminine side than I thought for at least US men. German women can be aggressive (take the lead) I understand (as far as in Germany) and so that may be the reason. But also the opposite is possible where some don't show their emotions well.

Do not show disrespect to ze fuhrer Just playin', but seriously, I don't like it.
IcemanJB Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 This thread is a PERFECT example of why modern day Germans are terrified of admitting that they're German. They refer to themselves as "European" for the most part when asked about their background. I've studied German for a few years now, but haven't had the chance to go over there, so if I'm way off with this statement, let me know. Both of my parents are German, and the punctuality thing is pretty accurate. I HATE it when people are never on time, and I definitely get that from my parents. My grandparents were all the same way. I actually had an interesting conversation in one of my classes with a German guy about how different people are here to strangers. Most of us would NEVER tell a person "your shirt is ugly" if we don't know them. The Germans won't usually hold back; take it as either harsh or honest, but that's how they are. They have a very witty, dry sense of humor too. This is all 2nd hand info, so take it with a grain of salt.
WineCountry Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 This thread is a PERFECT example of why modern day Germans are terrified of admitting that they're German. Ahh we are just joshing around. I like the Germans. Not sure about their food.. But I have a German Shepherd. Son of a gun looks sharp in his boots. No..seriously..I DO have a German Shepherd.
IcemanJB Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 I love their food. Beer and brats. Actually, come to Wisconsin, and you'll see a LOT of that.
