For me, it feels as though there is an uncontrollable force outside of me which makes bad things happen to me, and never let's me get anywhere in life.

I just wondered if anyone else feels like this?

I remember watching an episode of Becker once, it was about him having loads of luck, and he was really sceptical. I remember him talking about how 'they' (at that moment I thought 'Omg, that's just how I feel) are going to make something really really bad happen to him, because of all the luck he'd been having (which it did).

I also used to believe it was an "uncontrollable" force that was messing with my life and bringing in crappy experiences, and that the "culprit" was outside of me.

But I've since changed my belief system. We do it to ourselves, is what my new evidence has led me to believe. When I started saying that *I* am in charge of my own life and experiences, things started changing in dramatic and positive ways. (Though it did start off quite slowly.)

I would not encourage anyone to explore anything that does not feel "right" or appropriate for their own belief system but, if you're interested in such things, you could search "universal laws" at SpiritLibrary.com

Wishing you the best.

it's no so much the crap that gets flicked at you – or the good stuff – but the manner in which you deal with it.

outlook is everything.

It's two-fold, Ross.

  1. When you focus solely on the negative things in life that happen to you as something unique, instead of it being pretty normal, life will appear negative. Try to learn and shrug off the negative, and focus on the positive.
  2. The choices you make in life are important. If you either do nothing or continue to make decisions which consistently have negative impact on you, your life will be negative.

As an example of #1, you had a minor accident in your new used car. Many members told you it was no big deal, it also happened to them, and to carry on. It appeared to greatly affect you, thus making the situation more negative than just a simple learning experiece.

We may have all thought like this at one time of the other. I know I did. It the harsh reality was finally revealed to me.

Everything bad happening to me - was a result of my actions or thoughts.

It called consequences. Research the law of cause and effect. It will not be easy to read or apply at first. In the end, you'll have full control of your life and outcomes.

I think this is the worst attitude one could possibly have about life. It's this "poor me" victim mentality that holds you back.

Ross, I am sure this has been said to you before, but although there are forces outside of yourself which you cannot control (which is different to them being uncontrollable....It's just not you controlling them) the one thing you can turn your attention to, is your perception and how you view and accept these events.

As quankanne says, it all begins at home, in your mind. Your outlook, and how you deal with it.

It begins at home.
