I've been having some tummy issues and feeling fatigued over the past few months. A few of my coworkers and their wives have done this cleanse that they swear by. I bit the bullet and through down some cash for it after hearing about how great they feel now, and admit that the added benefit of losing a few pounds appealed to me.

I'm now on Day 2 of this cleanse. I was about to pass out from having virtually no calories in me, so I broke down and had a half-turkey sandwich. I feel like a failure!

Has anyone ever tried a cleanse and had good results? Should I try again?

Straight up SG, I don't believe in fasting, diets or any kind of body cleansing/purging routines. IMO, they just put unnecessary wear and tear on your body.

Consistent maintenance through a healthy lifestyle, is much easier to handle.

I agree with TBF. That and drink LOTS of water, that helps flush your system out. Eat a bowl of mixed berries, or your favourite fruits daily...

I would never cleanse/clear out my system because of the reasons you experienced.

I'd recommend it for a lot of women, but not for you.

What do you mean?

I mean, I wouldn't recommend that you do a cleanse. It won't do anything for you. Most women I would recommend it for. But you're one of the ones I wouldn't.

I have to agree with everyone else.

This is bad for your body. It will put your body into Survival mode, where as your body is going to want to store every bit of food into fat so it can handle the next starvation period.

Just like drinking water. If you don't drink enough water your body goes into survival mode and holds water. If you are flushing the body with water consistently your body will not hold the extra water because it will know more will be coming soon.

I know from personal experience for these ideas to be true.

I think cleanses are great. I just know that Star is a dirty girl. It's in her nature. And no cleanse is ever going to change that.

And how exactly do you know this?

Posted

You know you're a dirty girl. Isn't that what your guy tells you? Or you tell him? "Spank me! Because I'm a dirty girl! Harder!!"

Go ahead and do the cleanse though. It's probably a good idea.

You can also try fasting... it's free. LOL

Yes, go see a doctor.

SG, I wouldn't feel too bad about the half-turkey sandwich, it's the potato salad, baked beans , nachos and cherry cheesecake that you had along with it, that's the problem. BTW does this "cleansing', involve fasting, laxatives or enemas? You can keep that stuff. Try eating some yogurt.

I fast for 3 days every 4 months, the only things I consume then are broths, herbal teas and juice spritzers. No solid food whatsoever. The first day is okay, the second day is horrible, the third day is tiring but at the end of it, I feel great, and my senses are more alert. It's easier in summer than in winter...and you won't be losing any weight this way...whatever you lose will be back in no time.

Is Star a dirty girl because she thinks dirty things or is she a dirty girl because of gratuitous amounts feces are spackled to her colon walls

If you really want to cleanse yourself, use that stuff people use before they have an colonscopy. It'll make you have liquid crap for 2 days straight - Eat soup and drink liquids.

I have never done a cleanse myself but I know people who have. I think there are cleanses that can be beneficial for the body when done correctly. I would do your research and maybe speak with a doctor.

Hi, Allina. ;)

How about mixing it up a bit, eh? ;)

Sorry. I get tongue-tied.

SG, I'd like to add something since my previous post was so vague. Clearly I'm not a doctor and all that stuff, but this is my personal opinion.

Try a juice fast. I know A LOT of people who have done it, they're mostly the natural living/yoga types. You do need a juicer since this isn't a store bought juice fast (the store bought stuff would defeat the purpose). Basically you juice fresh fruit and veggies and consume only the juice, plus a daily vitamin. Some people take laxative tea alongside to help the cleaning process. I'm confident that this isn't a dangerous process, especially for someone like you who is young and in good health. It's also nice because you're getting nutrients and it is easy to maintain any weight loss you achieve sine you're not in starvation mode. You also shouldn't be dizzy doing a juice fast.

Again, I'm not claiming to be an expert, this is just my opinion.

Thanks, Allina. That's a good idea, and I think I'll try it. I love juice!

I just couldn't tolerate the other one I was trying. Oddly enough, when really busy, I can go an entire day without eating and not even realize it until I get a headache around 4 or 5 p.m.. However, with this "cleanse" I was doing, I had a headache and was dizzy by 9 a.m. It was horrid. I was told that was my body's signal that I was detoxifying. I'm calling B.S. on that one!

Posted

I only did a "cleanse" once in my life... I drank lots of water only for 3 days and at the end of the third day ate one apple - best apple I ate in my life! Then about 2 weeks of raw fruits and veggies, after which I reintroduced brown rice and other grains, grilled chicken, etc.

It was quite an experience. I was fascinated by how liberating it was not to worry much about food, and at the end was much more keenly away of what I put in my body. I lost about 16 pounds doing it, but of course it slowly came back on because the majority was water weight. I wouldn't do it as a weight loss thing, more of a "restart my system" kind of thing.

But yes, if it left you feeling dizzy I certainly wouldn't do that kind of cleanse. Listen to your body :)
