tanbark813 Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 What are your favorite job hunting sites? Which one(s) have you found to be most effective? Bonus points if you're in the tech industry.
OpenBook Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I only use one now: indeed dot com. It's actually a search engine for all the other job sites - Dice, ComputerJobs, etc. I just type in my job title, my zip code, then click 'Find Jobs' - it lists all jobs that match or are similar, with links to each job posting on whichever site it's posted on. It also indicates which are 'New' postings, and saves the last 4 of your previous searches. I'm also starting to use LinkedIn to look for jobs. I've been using it for networking... but they're starting to beef-up their other features such as company research, job postings, etc.
Author tanbark813 Posted May 28, 2009 Author Posted May 28, 2009 I'm also starting to use LinkedIn to look for jobs. That's a good idea. I get invitations from that site occasionally but haven't really used it before.

This question is of particular interest to me as I'm looking for jobs, what are yours? To be honest I haven't really found any to be effective, the only jobs I've found were through my university recruiting center(and I've applied for probably well over 100, at careerbuilder, monster etc). All of the other interviews besides the job I found right out of school were through career fairs. I've found a lot of sites to be useless. One thing I've done is trying to look for smaller more local sites, and also looking up career fairs, and the company lists and then applying on websites because I figure some of these jobs aren't listed on many sites and there are less applicants.

The only one I've used this time around has been Dice.com. When I first put my resume up I was getting a lot of response but it seems to have slowed a bit. I haven't done a lot of active searching myself since just posting my resume/profile was working well initially. I should probably be a little more pro-active.

The same has happened to me, and when I got laid of in February it seemed like the crisis was worse, and I was getting a lot of responses as well, but now as I am employed and looking after the end of my temp job I haven't gotton many responses either. One thing to keep in mind is that sometimes the person searching will only search resumes posted in the last 2 weeks or whatever time period(because I so its a good idea to take it down put it back up.
