One of the infinite big reasons I really like Jack

I was having a pretty crap day. I'd been 20 minutes late for an important meeting, and my mailbox was swamped with requests - as had been every surface of my desk, for weeks.

Panic, panic, panic. Too many demands, not enough time. What was I going to do? I went to talk to Jack.

A big reason I like him so much is that honestly, despite the various complications, he's one of the best relationships I have in my life. Professionally, we fit together so well, our strengths and weaknesses weaving each other like vines to make us stronger. He's one of the few people who makes me feel competent and sane. He treats all my fcvkups as learning experiences, and praises me for all of my strengths.

He makes me feel GOOD about myself.

Once he calmed me down this morning, he took me away for a private meeting.

"I'm going to be out on Thursday and Friday," he told me. We sat across from each other on plump low couches, in an empty, sunlit room.

"Oh?" I said. I tried to read his body language. Moving closer and closer to the edge of his seat. Leaning closer and closer forward...

"I'm going to a __ game on Thursday," he said. I was getting horny trying to read his broad shoulders." so I thought I might as well take Friday off as week, and have a five day weekend to do nothing."

"That sounds like fun," I said. I wondered what "nothing" was. I stared at his lips.

There was a moment of static electricity. I blushed and then I smiled.

We started talking about some work crap, and then the topic came back to attendance.

"I don't care when you show up if you do your work," he said, "And John (our boss) doesn't care. But I'm not always going to be your boss, and whoever you're working for next, might care. So, you might want to start getting into the habit more now." Then came some tips about alarm clocks, which were so humorous in nature I doubled over laughing.

With anyone else, I would have been so defensive. I'm the most sorest loser you'll meet, and I don't take kindly at all to any kind of criticism.

But he didn't make me feel threatened. I just felt like he was being a good friend.

I guess that's pretty sad.

It is because you like him. If someone else had given you that exact same advice, would you have reacted the same way? No. You said yourself that you don't take kindly to any kind of critism.

Other than the good advice he's given you, the other part I find interesting is that he said he won't be your boss forever; which could be a sign that they are looking to promote you (as you wanted) or he might be moving to another job or division. If either of these things happen it could pave the way for you guys to finally have a date.

Jack sounds like such a great guy. I have to go back through your threads to read on him.

How can he not? Everything spookie writes about him sound like they are straight out of the pages of a romance novel.

He is a really great guy, though. I'm not making anything up.

What is the water coller gossip about him and his job? Is he getting a promotion or changing departments? I think Imani is right - it sounds like he is not going to be your boss forever, possibly soon.

So what are you doing about his advice on timeliness? Are you working to change it. because it sounded like a friendly warning that you need to pay serious attention to.

I just want to say that your a good writer. You do a good job of drawing people in and creating tension when you tell a story.

He does sound like a great guy. I just really enjoy your descriptions of the "sexual tension" and the feelings you feel when you're around him.

He has handled the situation between you two very professionally and admirably.
