Question...have you online daters ever gone out with anyone online who lived an hour away?

Yes, and yes.

I am right there with you. I've been online dating for a little more than nine months and only once was there a second date (but not a third).

The amount of energy one has to expend to even begin a decent conversation becomes exhausting -- and then there is the disappointment when, after numerous messages back and forth, they simply disappear without explaining why. THAT is the most frustrating for me and I really appreciate the rare occasion when a guy tells me, "It was nice meeting you, too. However, I realized that we have more differences than similarities with our interests and ideologies."

Just give me a little closure! The rudeness of internet communication is driving me nuts.

Despite how nice that would be, you can't expect closure from online dating. They don't own you anything, even if you guys have already gone on two dates. That's why your guard should always be up when you're doing these sorts of things. Meeting a stranger adds a sort of mysterious as opposed to IRL but when it comes down to it, don't ever fall for them until there's exclusivity. Saves you the headache from constantly feeling like you're doing a tug of war.

I've decided to try something new with OLD (haha great acronym)--I met a man at a coffeeshop last week and there was no chemistry. But, we both have some common interests and got along well, so I emailed him tonight and told him I felt no chem and suspected he didn't either, but since we got along, why not go dancing sometime and use the opp to meet other people. After all, I need new friends more than I need lovers right now anyway, so we'll see if this will work or if he will take it well, as I suspect he will. I mean, this should be a lot more fun if we'll take the pressure off to have a relationship.
