missmich
I had a bf years ago and all he called me was "Baby" and he never, ever used my name! It drove me crazy! Now that I'm dating a new guy I sometimes feel like calling him a little pet name. We've been dating for just over a month. Is that to soon? It does kinda feel natural sometimes to call him something other then his name. I've done it a few times all ready, but mostly out of sarcasim when we've been joking around. He knows how crazy it made to hear nothing but "Baby" in that past relationship and he's told me how his x hated it when he didn't call her that enough. So I want the pet name thing to be natural and not annoying.

Author missmich
Hahhaha! Um...yeah that's one of those annoying pet names. I'm not so sure that one would fit him! LOL
kizik
Ugh. The "Baby" people SUCK. Just avoid the pet names and treat him like a grown-up.
Trialbyfire
Ugh. The "Baby" people SUCK. Just avoid the pet names and treat him like a grown-up. Well babe, it's all by personal preference... Sweetheart, do whatever feels right for the two of you. Have you considered Studly Hungwell?

Author missmich
Awww it's ok Kizzy! I remember as a teenager I had a couple bf's where we'd only call each other Babe! OMG how annoying we must have been to others, but then again our friends did the same thing.
kizik
I suppose pet names are like love for me - annoying from the outside, but a lot of fun when you're the one in it. Notice how I said I miss having a GF - not my ex GF.
Admiral
Well, don't ever do it in front of his friends.
Shock Me Sane
Well, don't ever do it in front of his friends. Haha. Yeah. Definitely don't do that. I like being called "baby"... not too much, but during appropriate moments. Like... "Hey, baby, can you give me a back rub?" And I use "sweetie," but only in established relationships. I wouldn't call someone I've been dating a month "sweetie."
BubblyPopcorn
I like unique names, "Baby" sometimes seems too generic. Ones that hold sentimental value between two people, are more enduring IMO.
fishtaco
One of my female friends that recently surprised me by actually getting into an exclusive relationship used to come up with pet names for all her guys. That way if she calls the wrong pet name... guess what, I just came up with a new pet name for you! Doesn't apply to the OP's situation of course, I just thought it was amusing. But other people already mentioned it, it's a matter of personal preference that's all.
Author missmich
I like original names too. They are so much more fun then Baby and the man or woman you're dating has probably been called that many times before. Eventually I hope to come up with my own pet name for him that works for us and use it when I'm ready to. I have called him Mister a few times when we've talked on the phone or in messages. Author missmich
Yeah I'd like something original that means something to us and isn't annoying to others who may hear it. So far I've called him Mister a few times on the phone or in a message and Baby once in a message, but that for a joke and he knew that. He hasn't used any pet names for me yet and I don't mind at all. If we do come up with them we will and if not that's fine too.

You know like "Now look here mister" in a playful sort of way?
