daisywindmill Posted October 21, 2003 Posted October 21, 2003 Hi folks. Just wondering if anyone out there has, or knows someone who has ME (or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome as it is now referred to)?
Tony T Posted October 21, 2003 Posted October 21, 2003 You can get all you want to know here: http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/diseases/cfs/ or by using a good search engine such as google.com to find thousands of sites giving insight into the disease. It's most often misdiagnosed. If you are feeling fatigued over a long period of time, it could be due to dozens of serious but treatable diseases such as low iron, low blood sugar, diabetes, thyroid dysfunction, high blood pressure, heart disease, lack of exercise, obesity, etc. Don't treat yourself. If your energy level has been down for a while now, see a doctor and get the blood and other tests. It could be something serious that could worsen with time.
Author daisywindmill Posted October 21, 2003 Author Posted October 21, 2003 Thank you for your reply Tony. I have been diagnosed as having ME and it is still something I have to come to terms with, especially as noone is sure what exactly causes it. I thought that the reason I was feeling so unwell was due to "burn out" - I work, I study, I am a lone parent and I am in a LDR. The tiredness is like no other. I can do nothing and feel totally and utterly washed out. But, maybe worse still, is the pain. I can only walk a little way now as my knees are very painful and even a simple task such as brushing my teeth causes my wrist to hurt. I have good and bad days. Basically it is a case of waking up and taking it from there. My concentration is terrible. It is taking me hours to type this he he ;0) The list of symptons could go on forever and I'm not here to find sympathy. Far from it, I am here to see if anyone has had an experience of this because I'm a newbie to the disease and I'm hungry for information.
Tony T Posted October 21, 2003 Posted October 21, 2003 Well, now that you've been diagnosed...I've just GOT to believe there's something that can be done for you medically. I mean, man has gone to the moon and back safely THREE times!!! We should be able to get you feeling better. Please let us know how you progress. You can't go on forever living like this. Good luck to you and don't give up!!!
