georgejungle Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 ...that's basically what my Dad is like to me. He's always had a problem showing his emotions, expressing himself, feeling comfortable, etc. Never really told me that he loved me until maybe 2 years ago. But he can always crack the jokes, avoid talking about his feelings or anything else serious. anyone have a parent like this?

I think your is much more of a dad than the average.
wuggle Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I think western society has encouraged this over the past few hundred years, still does to a certain extent. Our male children are still taught not to cry, stiff upper lip etc. We are slowly getting better but as a society it may take many more centuries yet. Sometimes people will talk more openly if you start the ball rolling.
