But that's all in the past. You can re-invent yourself now Spook. You don't have to let your past define you, you know. (Sorry for being trite, but it's really true.)

Of course. I'm trying to reinvent myself.

It's just not easy, being blind.

Figuratively, of course.

Oh thanks for clearing that up. Because for a minute there I thought you actually meant you were trying to re-invent yourself into being a blind person!

Ok, all kidding aside, explain this:

I don't think I can live without. How would I know what is true?

So funny you mention that...you must be as old as I am. I was just thinking of that novel. Was that Judy Blume? Too lazy to look...because anything by her was good. I think I even learned about masturbation from one of ner novels. Wow, that brings back memories for sure. Of course I'll never forget my mom's Cosmopolitans. That's where I learned about oral sex. :p

Yes you are correct! Judy Bloom, it was the only novel of hers I read and it was given to us in English class in grade school. I don't recall that particular novel having what you described in it though, more so Margaret buying her first training bra, things of that nature. :D

Also, how do you leap from the idea of re-inventing yourself to being blind? I don't get that.

Seeing things in a new light is not being blind you know. It's actually the opposite. Thing of it as "super sight" if you will.

You know, I'm kind of pissed after reading that, but I think you're probably right.

What if I don't want to give up that luxury? Surely there is a way I can keep it.

Sure. Don't give it up. You're as addicted to it as Touche is to cigarettes anyway. What you'll find is that it's a great way to click off a number of years and keep yourself from really achieving anything. Jack, for instance, is just a love decoy. You can focus on something fake and unlikely, and remain oblivious to the real things in life that could benefit from some of your attention. Of course, the real things include actually getting to know someone, building a life, managing your career and finances, taking care of your home, etc. Mundane things that aren't even interesting to discuss, let alone do.

Some day you'll wish you had paid more attention to the real world. But today, what kind of miracle would it take to get you to care? Or maybe it would take a catastrophe.

I just need to find a way to channel obsession with feeling into somethign productive.

I agree. But what is there in the world that can be classified as "productive" that is even half as interesting as this? Einstein, for instance, occupied his mind by obsessing about what it would be like to outrace a beam of light. Da Vinci invented fantastic war machines. You have "Jack".

I can pretty much guarantee that your crust will be all but forgotten by next year.

Me too. I've forgotten about the crust already?! But maybe that's why Jack is being standoffish. Once the crust clears up...

:lmao: I was wondering who was going to jump on that one!:laugh: I did try to go back and correct it but it was too late.

That was supposed to read "crush" in case anyone was wondering. ;)

But maybe there is a crust involved. This would explain things.

BTW spookie, I had 2 amazing boss days in a row. Flirting, talking a lot, e-mailing etc. I think that deep down I am not capable of quiting that job as the thought of never seeing him again is unbearable.

And yours is married too, right? Why isn't the thought of him going home to his wife and sleeping next to her unbearable to you?

Do those Harlequin novels make you believe that when he talks to you he's flirting? Or that talking is the only means you both have of being close to each other?

I bet when he walks past you and the folder he's holding in his hand accidentally brushes your shoulder you think he's secretly trying to send you a message that he's divorcing his wife next week to be with you, right?

Touche,

He already has a wife and 1 mistress (that I know of, there could be more).

But love is blind

Wow, he sounds like a prince of a guy. I can see why you're so taken with him.

Love is blind? Only if you're a fool I guess.

Probably a lack of STD's...and wife. And the mistresses would probably get in the way. But other than that, perfection!

 Ok, but seriously. We really shouldn't laugh because after all these guys are different. I mean I'm sure they're sexier and very different than anyone else. There's no way we could understand unless we met them ourselves.

These guys are exceptionally sexy and sweet and...well they just have that je ne sais quoi thing about them. They're worth putting your life on hold for.

They're not like most men.

Besides, I'm sure that they're one in a million because neither Spook or BEG fall for guys very often. In fact it almost never happens. It's SO rare that when it happens, it really means something, you know?

These girls aren't like the rest of us plebes who just fall for anyone.

You forgot that they both have a harem of women from all over the world tempting them with different cuisines of food nightly, as well as bellydances. Vive la difference!

Oh God.

Have I really been that naive?

You were harsh there LS... but I finally realized how this looks to you guys. How it IS.

All this time, I thought this obsession about Jack was one of the steps I was making in the RIGHT direction. At least I wasn't thinking about Wesley, right? Or having sex that makes me cry with random guys?

Now I understand it's long ago stopped being positive. And now it's just more of the same procrastinatory, obsessive pattern that got me wanting to change my life in the first place.

There's really so much that's wrong. I'm in a co-dependent pseudo-relationship with someone else, for instance, that I've no clue how to get out of. Just to start with the LEAST stress-related-heart-attack inducing and painful.

Ok...

This is gonna be hard.

Spookie,

Did falling for Jack make you forget about Wesley?

Not "forget"... but get over, yes. I go for days without thinking about him, and when I do it's difficult to conjure emotion.

Yeah, my boss too made me get over my ex. I had lingering feelings for the ex for years. At first I thought it was a positive thing. But all I was doing is replacing one obsession with another.

You know when I read our threads and when I am less emotional, I kind of see what everybody else on LS sees. We are acting kind of crazy. Both of our situations are dead end and hopeless (although mine is even worse).

But I am of hoping it will work out. In my situation, I will probably eventually meet someone else to get infatuated with and replace the obsession with the boss. This chain will continue until one day, one of my obsessions will be reciprocated and it will turn into "true love". I have another 50 years for this to happen. I mean it has to happen, by chance alone.

Well, if I ever find true love, then guaranteed you'll find true love.

I have ten years ahead of you.
