Re: am I want he wants.

I have no idea.

I have such things going for me as:

1. I'm very smart

2. I'm very attractive

3. I can be fun

but the kookiness might be a turn off for him. I'm defintiely not all that normal, if normal'syour thing. (That's what I learned today. Before that I really thought I blended in, even after you got to me.)

I don't think it matters if she fits Jack's usual mold, I just find it concerning that she thinks Jack is the only thing or person that can make her happy right now.

Comfort level and infatuation don't make for a strong or long-term relationship. What interests do the two of you have in common beyond your job?

Also, you avoided the rest of my other questions. What is Jack's ideal? Do you fit the mould?

What interests does anybody have? Personally I don't have any, and I'm ok with that. I spend my time between working, working out, studying, and a large chunk of "whatever", and I like to keep the "whatever" section open. Life's more interesting that way, and I don't like to predict moods.

Anyway, I don't think it's important for couples to have everything in common. We enjoy spending time with each other, and we understand things in very similar ways. What more could we possibly need? I don't buy that mutual interests in cross-country skiing or Presbytarianism make us or break us.

 spookie, I give up. There's no rationalizing with you. Your head is lost in a fluffy, rainbow cloud.

Heh.

I'm just going to focus on not doing anything stupid. :o

I actually agree with most of this except the bolded part. What more do you need? How about mutual attraction? And so far we really don't know for sure that it's mutual...or if it is that he's willing to ever act on it. So yeah, the rest is all meaningless if you don't have at least that.

As for this:

The silences feel comfortable; words displaced by affection; and sometimes when we start talking again, it feels like we're just using the only means we have to be closer to each other.

This is cute. It's all fantasy at this point isn't it? "Words displaced by affection?" What kind of affection? Talking is the "only means you have to be closer to each other?" In whose mind? And why is talking the "only" means to be closer to each other? Do you have the Swine Flu or something?

(Do you read those Harlequin novels, Spook? Sorry. Just wondering. )

Lmao. You are hilarious Touche. Thanks for making me see how ridiculous I am.

Though I still beleive myself completely.

No, I don't read Harlequin novels. But.... I did read them for many years when I was really young (start in 2ndish grade?)

Could that have fcvked me up?

Or is it just my "influence". Like, "I was influenced by Midnight Passion, and Dostoyevsky."

Did I spell his name right?

Spook, I doubt you are the first person in history to have a crush on their boss, but I think the attraction is also the dynamic in itself.

Is he older than you?

And do you also enjoy watching soap operas by chance?

That's what I'm here for! No thanks needed. And you're not ridiculous, Spook. Just human.

Though I still beleive myself completely.

I believe in you too!

OMG, absolutely! That's it. This explains sooooo much.

No, it's those Harlequin novels. OMG, you need like a lobotomy or something after that.

This is serious.

And she never answered me about the Swine Flu question either. Don't think I didn't notice that.

You know, my parents never showed us any examples of love at all. And we weren't allowed to romance scenes in movies.

All I had was that soft-core porn.

I don't have H1N1, but the way you put, I'm almost wishing I did.

OMG I read those novels too when I was a teen!

I'd cut school to go to the library to look for racy passages in trashy novels.

Sometimes when I remember these things about my childhood I'm like, "woah".

I wonder if everyone had those kinds of moments.

And I would stay up till 6am reading them with my flashlight under the blanket so that my parents wouldn't know that I was awake. Then I would get up 2 hours later to go to school... It was an obssesion for couple of years or so.

Stop it. I was kidding.

This explains a lot. Wow, I think I'm on to something. I bet Ariadne read those books too!

YIKES...I have to admit I kind of did that too but I didn't cut school to do it. I was too goody-goody for that.

I think many of us did but maybe the difference is that some of us realized at some point that it was fantasy and some of us held on (hold on) to that unrealistic expectation? I don't know.

What has "screwed you up" is that you have nothing better to do with your brain. You have the luxury of slacking off mentally and allowing this stuff to occupy the dead space. That can be how it goes for some people who haven't yet made major commitments to career or family. You haven't been forced to truly grow up yet and wring this foolishness out of your life.

EDIT: Congratulations, Touche, on figuring out how to quote.

I think the closest comparison for me as for trashy novels when I was a youngster would be "Are you there God, It's Me Margaret".

What's REALLY sad is that for some time, my bro and I weren't sure if "love" was a bad word.

(It's a little more complicated since we didn't speak English at home, so we associated "love" with passion = sex = bad. And even more so since despite that, we were growing up THINKING and more importnatly feeling in English.)

You know, I'm kind of pissed after reading that, but I think you're probably right.

What if I don't want to give up that luxury? Surely there is a way I can keep it.

I just need to find a way to channel obsession with feeling into somethign productive.

That rings true. I have too much space in my head with not much to think about except work. But I kind of LIKE having that space..

Precisely. I kind of like it also.

I don't think I can live without. How would I know what is true?

And you should know, right?

Very funny. The fact of the matter is that it used to work the way I had been doing it and then it just stopped working that way so I had to try another way...or maybe I've just been too busy with major commitments and family to give a crap about how to quote correctly..not sure.

So funny you mention that...you must be as old as I am. I was just thinking of that novel. Was that Judy Blume? Too lazy to look...because anything by her was good. I think I even learned about masturbation from one of ner novels. Wow, that brings back memories for sure. Of course I'll never forget my mom's Cosmopolitans. That's where I learned about oral sex. :p

But that's all in the past. You can re-invent yourself now Spook. You don't have to let your past define you, you know. (Sorry for being trite, but it's really true.)
