Peaceandlove Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Today I was walking in my college's grounds and a smartly dressed guy stood in front of my kinda blocking my way and complimented me on my scarf! I was taken aback, needless to say, and he went on to ask me where what it was made of- when I said cotton probably cause it was a cheap buy- he said and I quote 'a beautiful girl like you deserves silk' aaaanywayys I thanked him and he went on to ask where I was from and attempted to speak in my native language- I told him I'd be usefull in his next trip to my home country kinda hinting that he would not be practicing with me- he went on to ask for my number which I refused to give out and instead offered my e-mail but he said that he's quite old-school (he's probably about 10 years older than me anyway) and would not take my e-mail instead of my number, but I insisted that I don't hand-out my number to ppl I've just met Soo he said which department he works in (next door to mine)- I'm guessing so that I would contact him in case I'm interested.. Wow this guy did not mind putting himself out there really setting himself up for rejection (?!) and what's more he didn't look creepy I wonder if this is an interesting case-study in terms of whether this is something that this guy is used to doing and thus doesn't really care if he gets rejected, as in a que sera sera kinda way What do you guys think? ps. i sensed no chemistry so will not be pursuing
Jaytb Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 he's just a Pick Up Artist (PUA). He's an expert in getting ladies.
You'reasian Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 he's just a Pick Up Artist (PUA). He's an expert in getting ladies. or he's putting on a face of who he's trying to be....
Jaytb Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 or he's putting on a face of who he's trying to be.... yeah that too.
JustLooking123 Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 My thoughts: 1. Player! 2. Even if he didn't seem creepy, this story gave me the creeps. A bit too aggressive - refusing to take your email and insisting on your phone number? That would have put me off in a big way.

Isn't that creepy?
refurb Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 ps. i sensed no chemistry so will not be pursuing Wow, so based on a few minutes of conversation you've written this guy off? Or is it that you don't find him attractive? RF
Land Shark Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Wow, so based on a few minutes of conversation you've written this guy off? Or is it that you don't find him attractive? RF What does "no chemistry" mean to you?
amaysngrace Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 What does "no chemistry" mean to you? ten years older.
Bluebird In My Heart Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I wonder if this is an interesting case-study in terms of whether this is something that this guy is used to doing and thus doesn't really care if he gets rejected, as in a que sera sera kinda way Exactly! First reaction: 1. Married (or close enough). 2. Player and/or Married (or close enough). 3. Player, Married (or close enough), and stalking the grounds, hitting on all attractive women machine-gun-style in a very pushy way - to see who would go for it quickest ["It's a numbers game! If I hit on enough, someone's bound to bite!"] Damn I sound cynical. He's probably a nice guy, and look at me being skeptical. Meh. Peaceandlove, I think it was mostly the insistence re: the phone number thing that put me off. It seems like a reasonanable thing for you to do, and the fact that he pushed you on that a bit, without even knowing you...red flag. .
BobSacamento Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 It seems he's developed a formula that has been successful in the past. I've used them and currently use them in certain situations. Hell I might just add this to the arsenal lol.
Trialbyfire Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 If you're not feeling it, what difference does it make that a guy can handle rejection? If anything, it's highly beneficial to him, to have big balls.
SushiX Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Whats wrong with him hitting on you? And whats wrong with having balls like him? You can only get rejected soo many times, then you gotta grow some balls.
Trialbyfire Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I should add that he needs to work on his methodology. Kind of over-the-top with the scarf thing and too pushy on the phone number. A little more subtlety and wit, would really help his numbers.
D-Lish Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 and he went on to ask me where what it was made of- when I said cotton probably cause it was a cheap buy- he said and I quote 'a beautiful girl like you deserves silk' aaaanywayys Gay. Plain and simple. A man that openly discuss's fabrics has to be gay.
Art_Critic Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 What do you guys think? ps. i sensed no chemistry so will not be pursuing If there was really no chemistry and you were not impressed with him then why the thread ?.. I sense that there is some chemistry...

Art_Critic Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Gay. Plain and simple. A man that openly discuss's fabrics has to be gay. I first thought that.. but he did pursue her... so I would have to wait on the gaydar yet..
Trialbyfire Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I didn't know women are so picky even when it comes to the pickup lines. Geez! I would be intimidated to hit on a girl like you. Haha.Trust me, you don't want to hit on me, out of the blue!
SushiX Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Trust me, you don't want to hit on me, out of the blue! I'm careful who I hit on. If she doesn't look a bit friendly then forget about it. On to the next. Plenty of fishes.
D-Lish Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I first thought that.. but he did pursue her... so I would have to wait on the gaydar yet.. lol.... Many gay men pursue women in the denial phase. Many gay men are married to women.
Chicago_Guy Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Gay. Plain and simple. A man that openly discuss's fabrics has to be gay. Your response made me laugh! But it's true - how many guys are very knowledgeable about silk?
