soserious1 Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 It's time to write the alimony check and pay for yet another sheaf of medical co-pays for my ex husband. Let me see now, what luxury shall I give up this month ? air conditioning? food?
carhill Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I think I'll start eating the animals that roam the property. There's some pretty good quail and pheasant to be had, and tons of gophers

Enema Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 How close are you to retirement? Can you skip the country and stop paying?
carhill Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Does moving to a different city and domicile count? I do miss the cat.... she brought me lots of good food...
delajoonal Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 i know this may sound old fashioned or sexist... but i so DO NOT think that a woman should pay a man one penny for anything EVER! i mean really, what jack a** judge came up with wives paying alimony..OMG! how emasculating for the man/husband...ack! good to be rid of him... p.s. sorry you are stuck paying your XH...carhill is right, can you move or something to get out it???
carhill Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I honestly do not know the specifics of the OP's financial situation, but there are cases where men have performed roles similar to those historically performed by women, one example being a man caring for the family while his wife pursued a high-powered career, essentially sacrificing his earning power and progression thereof for the benefit of the family. Such are decisions mutually arrived at and mutual responsibility obtains, should there be a divorce. The court merely looks at numbers, like business statements and tax returns and tallies up the respective contributions and works out numbers it unilaterally applies. The OP and her exH could've reached any agreement, and maybe they did, and it would've been binding. If they didn't and a judge had to decide, it can be a pretty cold room, though I've been pleasantly suprised by some of the judges I've dealt with of late. The mortgage payment I make every month that provided the capital to allow my wife (she's not an ex at this point) to buy her own house isn't alimony per-se, but it functions much the same way in the checkbook, even though she has always made more money than me. I put a very high price on my sanity Personally, I would not abrogate my responsibility, especially if it was ordered by a court. Seek to modify? Sure. YMMV, of course
Author soserious1 Posted April 28, 2009 Author Posted April 28, 2009 I have to grit my teeth so hard while writing these checks that I'm afraid I'm going to break one of them.
Lizzie60 Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I know what you mean.. with my first ex.. I was paying child support since he had him full time for a while.. and he was making much more than I was... Soserious.. can you ask for an alimony revision.. maybe you are paying way too much for this sob..
carhill Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I have to grit my teeth so hard while writing these checks that I'm afraid I'm going to break one of them. LOL, I have a special laptop with extra durable keys, especially the numbers, since I make nearly all my "payments" online. You know how you hold the phone away and yell obscenities into it? Yeah, I thought you did

carhill Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Ah, with a pencil and two mini-marshmallows permanently attached
Author soserious1 Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 Ah, with a pencil and two mini-marshmallows permanently attached no, just an arrow from the crossbow I target shoot with for recreation.
carhill Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Not through the dartboard, I hope I thinking the Barnett I had for many years would go right through the wall of a house. Silent and deadly; great for midnight safaris...
