simon0707 Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Hello I'm a 20 year old male. My friend is registering a team in indoor soccer for this summer (starts in 2 weeks) and asked me to join. I used to play outdoor soccer but haven't played in 7 years. I love the sport. But I have a huge fear of joining because I don't want to fail. It's only a recreational league, but still. My friends and girlfriend will be watching me, they will be expecting me to do really well due to my experience, but I just have a huge gut feeling that I'll do horrible. It doesn't help that my cardio is absolutely horrible right now. I'm also scared to join because I don't wana let my team down if I can't cover my man or whatnot. I don't wana get owned or do really badly. What would you do? Thank you.
era Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Oh gosh...just slow down and enjoy it all. Don't become immobilized by what anybody else thinks.
Author simon0707 Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 Thank you for answering. I try not to let what other people think affect me, but it's difficult. I just feel like there's so much pressure on me, and I don't want to fail and get embarassed.
Rosalind Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 You need to go beyond the ideas of succeeding and failing, for these are judgments...just stay in the process and have fun...

One thing you could do is improve your cardio atleast. Get down to the park and start doing some sprints I reckon. Whatever happens, don't let this fear stop you from playing. Soccer is the greatest sport on Earth! I had a similar problem to you after I stopped playing for a couple of years when I was 15...I'm so glad I kept with it once I started playing again though! Until I'm in the grave, I'm never going to stop hehe
TaraMaiden Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 yes, but I think you may be Italian. to Italians, football is not a sport, it is a religion. To compete with Catholicism! _/l\_
