lazyhappylucky Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 me and my long term bf broke up(we're still friends), and I got all his stuff and tried to give it back like some people suggested, but you wouldn't take it! not angrily but he said(in a soft friendly way) "Keep it, I don't really need it and if I ever want it, I'll just come back for it" what up wit dat! So my question is, do you normally give the stuff back when you break up?
xpaperxcutx Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Unless they're really valuable, I would have a yard sale. Even if you and your ex are on friendly terms, do you see yourself holding on to the past? Items from exes are a constant reminder of past relationships.

If it was a gift that they GAVE to me, no, I wouldn't give it back unless they asked me to. But if it was like personal items that they left at my house, or something, I'd offer to give it back to them.

To me though, if a person told me that they didnt want the stuff back- then dont give it back to them. If they are playing games saying they dont want it back, they dont deserve it back in the first place for not making it clear they wanted it. Also, dont keep it- because it wont help with getting over the relationship, and because you were gonna get rid of it in the first place- so why keep it now that he doesnt want it? Maybe donate the stuff if its of that sort... or trash it. whatver floats ur boat.

What you should have said was, "I'm not running a free storage facility here. I'll keep it for 72 hours from now, if you haven't picked it up by then I'm throwing it away."
Joker77 Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 The night me and my last ex broke up, I told her to pack my stuff up and leave it on her doorstep. I picked it up that night and the minute I got home, I threw away every last reminder of her....and to clarify the stuff I threw away wasn't hers. They were pictures and other crap I didn't want to look at anymore.
