So I have recently been casually dating a girl that is about two years older than me...I met her when I went to a Celtics game with a group of mutual friends, and we ended up talking for a while after the game was over... we had a good talk, and everything went great, then a few days later she actually called me up and asked me to her sorority's dance banquet or something like that... I actually had concert tickets for that day, but I'm giving them up so I can go with her (she doesn't know about that part though!). Also, I did take her out to dinner and a movie on a double date the other night as well. Anyways, everything does seem to be going well, it's just that I found out through one of my friends that she recently went through a bad break up, and is still sort of hung up on her ex. I think the reason they broke up had something to do with the distance. I'm just wondering whether this is something I should mess with or not...that, and I have absolutely zero experience in dating women older than me.

You said she was only two years older than you. How old are you? She doesn't exactly have "cougar" written on her. I don't see what a difference 2 years would make unless you're in your teens.

I'd say - rather than listen to gossip, give the girl a chance. Has she given YOU any indication of being hung up on her ex?

I don't think dating someone 2 years older than you sets you worlds apart or anything...lol.

I'd just take it slow, enjoy yourself and see where things go. She initiated the first date- so she obviously likes you. I'd say give it a chance and have fun.

I agree with Dlish, give her a shot. Take your time and don't get too emotionally attached until you see that there is a potential for something serious. Two years older isn't that big of a difference unless you are really young, for example, mid teens. Enjoy the experience and the company.
