No one can say a psychologist is too old. This is why i didnt want to go into corporate america. Too much like highschool and too darn shady. Red fathom your dad needs to hire a lawyer asap

I don't know about retirment plans or pensions, so I don't know how it works. He is under the assumption that he will get his full pension...??

Look, a lot of people are getting screwed and a lot of people have been in the gutter for a long time. This needs to act as a wake up call to Americans. You guys are acting like and starting to resemble a third world country. The standard of living is screwed up even before the recession people just didn't want to notice it. You are young so you have an opportunity to make American a better place. Your Dad may or may not get his pension. But next time someone tells you 'we have to rape you because if we don't the company will go broke and no one will have a job!' you tell them to die in a fire. That is basic fear mongering to control you and steal everything you own. A capitalist economy does NOT mean you have to steal from the poor and give to the rich. Capitalism is about encouraging growth. For example you give money to the company to open the mine because it will create jobs. But you don't give them concessions to turn the local towns people into slaves.
daveo679 Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 A lot of influx lately here in Thailand (Pattaya) due to guys losing their job or just getting pissed off with the doom & gloom back in UK, you can live cheaper out here than there and have the added bonus of the weather and the sweet Thai girls.

I have to admit I've considered there or someplace similar if I ever get laid off or quit. I could easily live someplace like that as long as I want without touching the 'nest egg', so why not? Heck, maybe even use some contacts to pick up a contract or 2 for remote coding.

When someone does hire an entry level developer they'll expect the person to hold a CS degree. Or equiv. experience usually. Software development really needs a sort of organized apprenticeship program.
