spookie Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 What a retarded question. Like I would tell you. My stock answer is chain-smoke cigarettes and drink alone. I'm not kidding about the drinking alone bit, but most people don't seem to realize the other part is a joke..... Seriously, how does one answer this when one's hobbies are either alleged, cliched, or top-secret?
Peaceandlove Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 erm as long as you stay away from things like 'i collect lowan mowers!' i reckon you'll be fine i personally read, bake, exercise (joging and weight lifting), knit and fund-raise for different charities- in case you need some inspiration
johan Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Most people answer by listing things they do once or twice a year, or something they did once but enjoyed. If you read "I'm a runner", it means that "I own running shoes". Some people answer with things that are no-brainers, like "I like to travel". "I go to the gym" either means "I'm technically overweight, but it's firm so I call it muscle" or "I work out compulsively, and it's not technically fun, but it keeps me from getting suicidal."

Yes, exactly. That's why it's a stupid question. Everyone lies, or else states the obvious. I like spending time with friends. Naw... really? And if you actually are an interesting person, it comes off as bragging.
johan Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I like to read your craaaazy posts. And I like to spend time around women I desire. Even if I can't have them. I like my job. It appeals to my obsessive nature.
NINEBREAKER Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 you cant tell if someones hobbies are real or fake just by listening to what they said. you have to examine what other things they say and then deciide wether or not they are being truthful or dishonest. the internet makes people do and say odd things. not all people but some. mostly teens. a nice goodie two shoes girl could be could be a complete whore on the net. its best to read everything they say and then judge the things they say. don't judge based on a few things said in one post but judge acordingly to many diffrent posts on many diffrent thireads. course i'm talking only about forums in this case. but what i have said can be adapted to online chats via messanger programs and such. but with messanger 1 conversation won't give an acurate outlook on the person. my hobbies. play video games, read manga comics, study martial arts (reading the books and such not actually practicing for i have little equipment and space) , forums, studying asian philosphy, watch movies, and often times wind up getting set up on dates with complete strangers that never work out. i plan on moving to the city in january and then i will add clubbin to my list of hobbies
Isolde Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Since most of my interests are solitary, I always worry I'm coming across as a batty recluse. It doesn't help that I also like cats
soserious1 Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I provide mentoring to disadvantaged youth who have an interest in math and the sciences.
Author spookie Posted April 11, 2009 Author Posted April 11, 2009 I procrastinate doing anything useful by killing my time here.
crosswordfiend Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Since most of my interests are solitary, I always worry I'm coming across as a batty recluse. It doesn't help that I also like cats Could be worse. You could be a man that likes cats... I hang out and read in coffee shops, do the odd crossword puzzle and a few times a year i'm involved in a community theatre production.

Author spookie Posted April 11, 2009 Author Posted April 11, 2009 My actual allocation of free time: 1. Running 2. Shopping 3. Cooking, eating 4. Fantasizing about having sex with boss 5. Rock climbing 6. Studying 7. Fantasizing about fame and ostentation 8. Working overtime 9. Talking to other people The first 8 are solitary, and not all that cool.
Isolde Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Mine is similar, something like this: 1) Reading 2) Writing 3) Surfing the internets 4) Window shopping/walking/jogging around my neighborhood 5) Thinking about having sex with cute guys and then chastising myself for thinking impure thoughts 6) Thinking about all the cool things I'll do with my free time when I become cool
johan Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 My actual allocation of free time: 1. Running Cool. 2. Shopping Lame. 3. Cooking, eating Cool, if it's healthy and in moderation. Otherwise uncool. 4. Fantasizing about having sex with boss Not cool. 5. Rock climbing Cool. 6. Studying Cool. 7. Fantasizing about fame and ostentation That's your thing. 8. Working overtime Time and a half is cool. 9. Talking to other people Depends what you talk about.
Author spookie Posted April 11, 2009 Author Posted April 11, 2009 Cool. Lame. Cool, if it's healthy and in moderation. Otherwise uncool. Not cool. Cool. Cool. That's your thing. Time and a half is cool. Depends what you talk about. I don't like the shopping either. =( It's a hobby I've picked up as of late to distract myself from thinking about smoking. I'm not sure why but it works.
D-Lish Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 There are only three things I do that are consistent in my life. 1) love and nurture my dogs 2) Shop for new clothes and shoes 3) masturbate daily (sometimes I lose track of how many times).
Touche Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I procrastinate doing anything useful by killing my time here. I can relate. And before I list my hobbies, totally unrelated to this thread, I love when people say "I'm a people person." WTF? I used to get people telling me this all the time when I was interviewing and hiring as a recruiter for a staffing (employment) agency. What the hell is a "people person?" And who in their right mind (other than me) would admit that they're NOT and that they can't stand people and want them to stay as far away as possible? Ok, on to my hobbies: 1. Gardening 2. LS 3. Cooking and researching and trying new recipes and cooking methods. 4. Researching my roots. That's been fascinating. 5. Reading 6. Rv'ing!!!! (On an RV trip as we speak.) 7. Video editing. It's an ongoing thing I've been learning and getting better at. I make cool home movies. 8. Canning...new hobby for me..as of two years ago. I'm still learning. Not hobbies but what I like to do for fun: 1. Turn up the music loud and dance with H when we're alone. 2. Watch movies on TV. 3. Play board games (backammon, scrable, monopoly, etc.) with son. 4. On line shopping. 5. Eat out. 6. Play pool. 7. Hang out with a cool drink by the pool in the summer. 8. Grill and barbecue!! 9. Give myself a day of "beauty" as I like to call it. I do like an at home spa thing...do nails, hair, luxurious bath, etc. 10. Sit in the hot tub with H and chat about our goals (short and long-term) and talk about our dreams for the future.
wuggle Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Could be worse. You could be a man that likes cats.... And your point is ?? I go to the gym (but no Johan I am not a fat out of shape loafer), I run (we are training for the 10km race in a month or so). I have always had a slight creative streak so about a year ago I decided to try to learn silversmithing and how to cast silver and make small sculptures etc. Hardest thing I have ever tried to learn, I have only managed to make about 5 things in a year and most of those are cr*p. I will stick with it for as long as it takes to get good at it and then move on to something else. Whatever it takes to keep my brain active & learning.
BlueEyedGirl Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I HATE that question, mostly because my hobbies are not really socially acceptable so in random order: Shoping for clothes, shoes etc even though my closet is full of stuffGoing clubbing or to bars where I can get wasted (with friends)Reading LSObssesing about the bossTaking sleeping tabletsReading crime novels and various psychology booksGoing for long walks aloneBeach in summerFantasazing about making a huge breakthrough in my research and winning the Nobel prize
crosswordfiend Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 And your point is ?? Isolde was worried about being labelled as a cat lady and all of the negative societal connotations. By natural extension, imagine what people would say of a man (who lives alone) and has more than 3 cats... Much much worse I would imagine.

BobSacamento Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I like to - go to estate sales and garage sales and buy goofy crap for $1. - Golf - Explore new places even around my city I've lived in for my entire life. - Watch TV - Brew Beer - Go to the movies - Go to a pub/bar, but not as often as I used to. - Play video games - Obsessively monitor my weight
runner Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 them: so what do you do for fun ? me: erm, define 'fun' *quizzical look on my face* them: i mean, like, so, what do you, like, do for fun ? like, do you go out and stuff ? me: uh, yea, don't we all ? (at this point, i've intellectually shut down and stare into my pint thinking to myself, 'now isn't this fun...') moral of the story: meeting new people can be over-rated sometimes. now you know, and knowing is half the battle.
Isolde Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Phew, tha's ok, I only have 3 cats Don't listen to the haters, guys that love cats win a lot of points with me.
