A couple of coworker's boo-boo'd and cost the company close to $50000 over the last two years. I got called into the VP's office while they were getting asked about it because I usually help them with their fear of computers, and while I don't have the time to hold their hands, I try my best to give them the tools to do their jobs.

It seemed to me like they were trying to shift the blame but it still pointed back to these two people. I still felt bad for them, and thought either the VP or myself would get in further trouble. So I went back and found an email I sent to the two of them almost two years ago, linking to a spreadsheet showing a list of names and amounts and specifically said "use this to reconcile to the billing".

Well, they obviously never did because the numbers were wrong. They also didn't ask for help and the last line of my email said to ask me if they had any questions.

I hope I did the right thing by sending that to the VP. I hope it doesn't seem like I was trying to shift the blame. These two need to be on top of their ***** and I'm sick and tired of having to babysit. Turn your effing brain on sometimes!

I didn't mean for this to turn into a rant. Do you think this will make me look bad?

No, I don't think it will make you look bad. This is a professional setting, you need to cover your own butt.

ESPECIALLY if these people were trying to shift blame... You can't be too careful. This covers you and the VP should there be more questions.

When you've done your job the way you are supposed to- you don't want any sort of doubt hanging over your performance.

A work environment isn't like highschool. You don't "cover" for incompetence. You're paid to do the job and do it well.

You should be checking their work if you signed off on it you are accountable to the executive.
