Marriage horror story

Heard this little chestnut from a friend. Basically this middle-aged divorced wealthy guy toured SE Asia looking for a young bride. Eventually he found one, married her, took her back to the USA and they had 2 kids over the next 3 years. She acted the wife role and he was pretty happy.

 

About a year later, he comes back from a business trip and she is gone - the kids are there with a nanny. He can't reach her, the cellphone number has been disconnected. He then finds that she has totally cleaned out all the joint bank accounts, 401k, sold the cars, and wired it all out to a numbered offshore bank account - total amount in the millions. The guy is left with their 2 kids, his house, and pretty much nothing else from his former multi-million dollar fortune.

 

Made me think, what would stop anyone doing this in any marriage? Joint bank accounts are total insanity IMO.

My "stepmother" is asian, raised in the UK, met my father at 17, married 2 kids. My father died, she had a new boyfriend within the month of his death, everything of my fathers is gone, boyfriend lived with her and my sisters from second month after father gone - my sisters are 10 & 8 - they are messed up - and me, being 28 am powerless.

 

There are worse things than the wife running off with the cash.

If you are 28, how come you haven't taken custody of your sisters rather than letting someone who isn't even a biological relative look after them? You're far from powerless - if you think she's screwing them up, all you have to do is go for custody. Simples

She is their mother - biologically - not my mother. I have contacted Social Services and it would seem that short of them beating them to a pulp I am powerless to do something.
