My 8.5 month old has been sick since last week. He's had a fever, was lethargic and extremely fussy. He's been to the ped twice, they did a finger stick and said with such high leukocytes, he clearly has a viral infection and that I must keep him hydrated, use motrin/tylenol to control the fever, and keep him comfy. It's gotten worse, though - now his body is covered with a rash and he has a wet sounding cough.

I've only left the house to go to the health food store and the ped, so I'm going stir crazy.

Would it be ok to put him in the jogging stroller and snuggle him up in blankets and go for a run or a long walk?

I typically believe in fresh air for folks, but it depends on what your weather conditions are. If you have to snuggle him in blanketS, it sounds like it might be too chilly to take an infant with a weakened resistance and temporarily compromised respiratory system out.

it's mid to high 60s and overcast.

I just put socks and pants on him, I think he'll be Ok. It's not really cold here, I live in FL.

That sounds fine, then. It was the part about snuggling him up in multiple blankets that concerned me; that sounded pretty chilly.

Out you go.. it isn't going to do anything to him and will give you the needed exercise and the time out of the house

I hope he feels better B_O

I'm sorry to hear little Otter is under the weather.:( I'm sure it's just fine to take him out for a little walk. I would make sure he is warm.. and I would not stay out for to long. If this is viral, it should run its course over the next few days.

I just got back and it was super nice to power walk for 3 miles and get some of my frustrations out. I feel energized and more pleasant in general, and my son fell asleep in the stroller for about 45 minutes, which was great, I got some time to myself. I didn't do any chores, I just sat on the couch and enjoyed not being touched or needed for a while.

Well it sounds like someone is taking a dump right here next to me, so I'm back on duty. Thanks ya'll.

He is great, thanks for asking. Right after he got better from the Roseola (which we didn't know he had until 2 pediatrician visit, after his fever broke when he got the trademark rash all over his body) we went to Kentucky to visit my Aunt and cousin and see my Dad's grave. It was an 11 hour car trip both ways, but it was worth it. My Aunt is 88 and gets thinner every time I see her, which isn't a good thing with her.

The area of Kentucky that we stayed at was a wealth of natural wonders. We went hiking at least twice a day every day that was nice - but two of the days we were there, it snowed! Those were visiting days. But other than that we hiked around Short Creek, hiked to Rock Lick Creek's wet season water falls, Yahoo Falls, The Natural Arch in the Daniel Boone National Forest, and we went by the family cemetary a couple of times while we were there, too.

My son was great on the trip all things considered. I just kept him entertained, and on the hikes my S/O wore him in the Moby so he never complained a bit, even on the 4 hour hike. My avatar is a picture I took near Cumberland Falls.

Aw man - he's a sweetie...

Glad that he is better. I sometimes miss that age with my kids, but that is usually only when they are late for curfew or I don't like the people they date.:p
