Why is being able to cook such a valuable skill for a woman to have? LOL? I can microwave. That's the highest of my culinary abilities. I hate cooking. Lucky for me, my SO is a wonderful cook and I don't have to lift a finger in the kitchen.

so the husband doesn't have to cook

No one should cook unless they want to.

When men say they want a woman who is a 'good cook', should I presume that they mean they want to dump all the responsibility of cooking and meals on her?

pretty much, yes

Are you guys great cooks yourselves?

i am

i don't know, most women expect a man to hold down a job and bring home a paycheck

You seem very fixed on stereotype "gender" roles.

What does bringing home a paycheck have to do with cooking? Are you assuming that women don't bring home paychecks?

I can understand how this would be an issue (for you, I'm assuming) if we're talking about a stay-at-home wife/mom. But if both parties are paying the bills--what's your point? And even still, no one should cook unless they want to! There's always take-out. Restaurants. Microwaves. Etc. No one should do ANYTHING they don't want to!

No one should be expected to be waited on hand and foot--regardless of who's paying the bills...or not! It works both ways.

I agree, including marrying a woman who won't cook dinner.

That would be nice, but how many of today's women really know how to cook anyway? I don't think I could realistically make that an important criteria in selecting a woman to marry.

I'm not talking fancy cooking, I'm talking ability to create good nutritional food from basic foodstuffs.

Uhuh ... and how many women today can actually do that? :lmao:

Not as many as I would like, but it only takes one. Honestly I prefer simple food that's prepared from basic fresh ingredients. It's healthier and saves on the food budget.

I agree. My girlfriend cooks for me, and I enjoy it a lot. It's too bad many people in general just won't make their own meals. I like knowing what's in my food before I eat it. And I hate microwave, frozen, or fast food.

It's really nice, I think a lot of women underestimate the power of a good home cooked meal, not to mention the economic and health benefits.

Ideally both partners should learn to cook though. I wouldn't want to force my girlfriend to do all the cooking all the time, both because it's something nice to do and everyone needs rest once in a while.

My SO comes home to a clean house and a hot cooked meal each day. I only work once a week so I expect that he deserves this after a long shift!

BUT...everyone should know how to cook.

After all, it was his home cooked pasta on our 3rd date that lead to ... well ... let's just say, the ladies love a man who cooks!

I was hooked

Now it's my turn to repay him, a man's home is his castle :D

My wife's a SAHM, so she does most of the cooking. But I love to cook, and am pretty good at it, so I tend to take over the kitchen on weekends. Seems to work for us.

Of course, but I'm willing to be the sole earner, so in my opinion my expectations are not unfair, just unusual.

Cooking is a basic life skill.

I am amused by all the attention on cooking in this thread. I LOVE to cook and bake, and I go all out. Everything fresh and made from scratch, multiple courses, well-balanced nutritionally. And it's true -- every boyfriend I've had has been blown away by my cooking, and by the fact that I love to cook for him. They generally say that none of their exes could cook worth a damn.

All that said, I also want a man who can cook. Outside of straight-up sex, there is not much hotter than cooking with my man! It's sooooo sexy. And when he makes soup for you when you're sick. *melt*

I always eventually lure them into the kitchen to bake with me, too (holiday cookies or pie, for instance), and this brings out super cuteness. Most of them haven't gone anywhere near baking since childhood, so it brings up all the warm fuzzies associated with home and youth. And then we start throwing flour at each other and -- I'm not gonna lie -- we eventually end up doing it in the kitchen. Loving ovens, indeed.:D

My GF sold me when she told me she could cook. I was like "Iight, where do I sign to make this official?!" When she does cook a fresh meal, I always help. Sometimes she wants to play wifey and cooks for me while making sure I'm comfortable on the couch watching TV lmao. I always insist to cook but sometimes she just wants to spoil me. ****, she'll even throw on a G-String, some heels, and a tank top and cook away. Wow. Now I'm horny and hungry.

I'm an amazing cook, enjoy cooking and cook dinner several times a week. But I won't cook meat so even my wonderful cooking may be a deal breaker
