A lady friend has told a mutual friend that she really, really likes me. She is ok looking, but is overweight and frequently mentions it. She is self critical of her appearance in many ways. Armed with the knowledge that she liked me, I walked her to her car one evening after work. She was being sent to another office for a week so I said I'd miss her and hugged and kissed her. It was a good long tongue involved kiss, and she was a vigorous participant.

Since then we are friendly but she turns down my offers to go out together. I'm pretty sure there aren't any other men in her life for a long time. I like to think she is just afraid of starting something because of body image. I can allay her fears. A sincere conversation is called for but I'm uncomfortable bringing it up at work and I can't get her to join me outside of work.

How do you ask a woman if her weight etc is an issue? it just seems rude.

it is rude and you can't do that. you have to befriend her in a nice way, make her feel special and wanted. be a gentleman and treat her well. that's the way to make her feel good and confident enough to date you.
