Elilmomma Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I want to get some advice for my brother, he is dating this woman for a little over 8 months but she's very controlling and extremly jelous. He broke up with her today and she's threating to kill herself by cutting her wrists. I tried to talk her out of it but she says without him she has no life. My brothers gf has very low self esteem and she always takes things the wrong way. My Brother said he's tired of arguing and fighting with her, and he wanted out. Now I hear they got back together and I feel like he go back with her cause she was threating to kill herself, he says his gf said she's gonna change but idk. I am afraid for my brother is in way to deep. His gf needs help, I don't think she should be with anyone right now. What can I do to help him, and make him realize that she's wrong for him? Ever since my brother has been with her he's been miserable, and he used to be a fun loving guy, but not anymore. My whole family is concerned for him? what can we do if we can do anything?
SoulSearch_CO Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 You can't make his choices for him. All you can do FOR him is be there as a listening ear. Support him, love him, let him know that no matter what stupid choice he makes - you guys still love him. If he breaks up with her again and she makes the threat to cut her wrists, get some proof of that (whether recording the phone conversation, or IM message - whatever) and call the cops. They can put a 72-hour mental hold on her if she's a danger. Then she might start to get the help she needs.

Call the suicide hot line or the police and let them know what shes been saying and how you can help her she needs to be committed and get some help. If theres been open threats of suicide it can be done for her own good and your bros sanity cause it sounds like hes trapped in a misrable relashionsip other wise...
