A few months ago my derm diagnosed me with molluscum and so I got them surgically removed, which I now have scars to show for. Just today the derm also said she sees early signs of genital warts, which she also just removed. I think I probably got both from my ex...and I was told that condoms do not protect against either molluscum or genital warts. I'm so angry/upset at myself.

I'm gonna set up for an appointment with a gynocologst to check for other STDs. I"m so scared I got HIV even. My ex said he tested for HIV before we got together but that was awhile ago and I fear that either he lied or he contracted it while we had a temporary breakup and then gave it to me. I'm so scared :(. Should I call him and ask him or just wait the results out from the doctor which might take months I heard.

I feel so alone and like I'm the only one who got such dirty STDs. Anyone else have the same/similar STDs?

Guess you did not consider using protection?

Not the most supportive thing to say to someone who is posting about being so scared. Condoms DO NOT protect you from warts. It's a skin to skin contact virus. Unless you're wearing a thick plastic bag from head to toe....

I'm so sorry about this OP....

My gf got warts from her ex.... she had them removed and they never returned- that was 10 years ago, and at her last blood test- she was HPV free. This strain isn't forever contrary to popular belief... It's not like Herpes. AND- they were using protection!

It does not take months to get an HIV test result. It usually takes under 10 days. HIV can however take 3-6 months to show up in a blood test. So they recommend you get tested 3 months and then a 6 month follow up after sexual contact.

Just go and get the full work up done- you'll make yourself feel better.

Your ex may not even know he has them- in which case I'd alert him (or public health can alert him) so he doesn't continue to spread warts.

((hugs))

Sorry to hear that. And yes, I read that stuff goes through condoms..

It's just skin to skin contact- so any unprotected skin that touches down there can spread the virus. A condom may help reduce the risk, but you can't count on it.

I just got my PAP results today and was told I have HPV also.

I've never broken out in warts before and neither has my boyfriend.

I get tested every year and all of my results have come back negative up until now.

The really tough part of it all is that there is not a test out there that men can take, so he probably did not know.

Also, condoms can reduce the risk of it spreading, but any skin to skin contact can spread it; i.e. kissing, oral.. anything, really.

I think the important thing to remember is that it sucks, but fortunately life goes on.

Modern medicine can't cure it, but can help control it and help you.

Good luck to you and well wishes.

I wouldn't suggest calling him until after you get the results...and only call if they are positive for anything else.

Again, he might not know he has the HPV virus, and if you want to be nice you can let him know. Otherwise you can let him learn on his own.

If he was lying to you before, he'll continue to lie to you about it.

There are like 50 odd strains of HPV, of which maybe 2 or 3 manifest as warts. Don't quote me on this- but it something like that. Of these 50 or so strains- only a few can/could lead to cervical cancer.

Is it that your pap came back abnormal? HPV is usually detected through a blood test- at least that is the impression I have always been under. UNLESS there are visible signs of abnormalities ie: warts, it's detected via bloodwork.

An abnormal PAP may mean the abnormality points to pre-cancerous cells on the cervix. This of course can be caused by HPV. But...cancerous cells can show up regardless of whether or not one has HPV.

So, did you have blood work done? Or did your doctor say your pap was abnormal, citing that HPV could be one cause....

ALSO, one abnormal PAP isn't abnormal for women to have.

When you have two in a row- that's when they will send you to a specialist for a colposcopy (sp).... which is scraping abnormal cells from the cervix.

I probably made this sound more complicated than it is.

Having HPV does not mean warts. Only some strains manifest as warts.

Only some strains contribute to a higher probability of developing cervical cancer.

I'd talk to you doctor again- or a public health nurse if you are at all confused about the facts.

That is unfortunate, but don't get too down on yourself sweetie. A LOT of people have at least SOME sort of STD. Many people do not know about it. Especially HPV, because it is really sneaky.

Like Normal, I have HPV but have never had an outbreak with warts. I've had it since I was 16.

I am not siding with your boyfriend, but he might be completely oblivious to this. So, even if he did get tested, they would not have found this particular virus. You should probably at least let him know that he is carrying the virus, or ask your doctor's office to phone him.

Good luck to you, lady. I think you will be alright, as long as you get all of the medical care you need.

PS. Take your vitamins. ;)

I was told that as of today there are at least 100 strains that are known about.

I had bloodwork as well as a PAP done that day and I am assuming she was talking about my PAP results.

I'm pretty sure she just said my test results when I talked to her and didn't raelly specify which one.

What you said sounded familiar though, Dlish.

They are doing a coloscopy or whatever it is next month and she was talking mainly about pre-cancerous cells and started talking about the HPV...she was talking about so much that I might have some of the information confused.

I am new to all of this.

Sort of scary stuff.

A lot of what I've found online that I have read has HPV sound like no big deal.

I started a different thread on a different forum asking about it before I knew this thread was here.

Kind of scary when any test results come back badly.

Esp. the ones regarding your reproductive system.

Yeah, I saw the two similar posts come up at the same time.

The PAP test would have come back abnormal- the bloodtest would have revealed the HPV. The good thing is that cervical cancer is treated effectively when caught early.

The colposcopy is like a pap, just a tiny bit more uncomfortable.

They scrape the abnormal cells and then look at them under a microscope to check for pre-cancerous/cancerous cells.

I had one abnormal pap 6 months ago, and am awaiting the result of my second. If the second is abnormal- they will do a colposcopy as well.

HPV doesn't mean warts- only some strains cause them.

I know it's scary- and I don't want to minimize it or sound flippant about it- but this is very much a routine thing. After your colposcopy- they'll keep an eye on you and do another pap in 4-6 months.

Thx everyone for all the info (esp to D Lish for all the 411 on it)...didn't know that this hpv thing is so common.

As if this is not bad enough in itself, I have my current bf to fear for.

Well...there was ONCE a few months ago where we dry humped with no clothes on but he did not ejaculate. This was before I knew I had either STDs. After that one time, I later found out I had molluscum and we never had any sexual contact for a few months until I got rid of the molluscum bumps and my derm said I'm not contagious anymore (I however never told him I found out I got molluscum)

That made me paranoid still so I won't have sex with my bf but we however dry hump (me with my underwear on and him with boxers but his penis is fully exposed through his boxer's fly). We've dry humped like this for a few months and only today did I find out I've got genital warts. Could I had given him genital warts even with my undies on? I feel so awful :(. I don't know what to do.

And gosh, I need to test for HIV and I'm so scared to know what the results will be.

Any skin that is exposed around the edge of your undies could possibly have had the skin issues and yes - could have passed it to your BF. I'd sit down and talk to him about it - he deserves to know.

I feel for you on this thread. But yeah, STDs are incredibly common, unfortunately. This thread makes me never want to have sex again. LOL Eh - I'm sure it'll wear off.

I'm really surprised it takes that long to test for HIV in the US. I have never tested here, but it took just 30 minutes to get my results where I was. They also sell do-it-yourself testing kits, but I had to go in because I needed counselling.

I guess 1st world does not necessarily mean first in everything.

Gummy, all the best. The sooner you clear all these doubts, the better.

Well lately we've been doing dry humping with him wearing nothing, and me with my underwear AND long PJ pants on (We added in the PJ pants becauase we wanted to reduce the risk of his ejaculate swimming through my thin underwear)....what are the chances of him contracting ANYTHING if we do that like from here on out? Can hpv or molluscum be contagious through 2 layers of clothing?

How old are you guys? I am surprised he didn't think anything was strange since you said there was a period of months during which you didn't have sex?! How long have you been dating this guy? It's all very interesting - all the "dry humping" and no questions from him?

so youve had sex with him in the past and now its dry humping? whats that about :S sorry but im lost

We are both in our late 20s. Well we never had actual intercourse. We only had dry humping with NO clothes on ONCE awhile back. That seemed too risky so we gradually added underwear, then underwear with PJ pants....which was so I won't get prenant from his ejaculate. I told him in the beginning that I want to wait to have sex and he said 'ok' and I asked if he's fine with that because it might be awhile, and he said its fine and that it's not something that changes anything. Over the past few months he's offered to do things that required me to take of my underwear but I'd just say 'I dont really like/enjoy that' and he wouldn't question me again. To be honest, after this STD crap, I dont' really want to have sex again until I'm married. If I had a choice, I wouldn't even want to do dry humping.

So anyone know if STDs can pass through both my undies AND PJ pants?!?!?!

Posted

I doubt anyone here is an expert - ask your doctor. IMO, I would say ANYTHING'S POSSIBLE. But I could very well be wrong.
