shadowplay Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 This is sort of related to Isolde's thread about pompous rejections. Maybe I'm just in a crabby mood but one thing I can't stand is when somebody who rejected you recently or in the past expresses false sympathy or encouragement about your life. Some examples: "Oh, I really do so much want to see you happy, [insert your name here]." "I truly hope you find what you're looking for. You're a great guy/girl!" "I hope things work out for you on x problem. I'm glad to hear that, [your name]." Usually these messages are delivered in a incredibly slow, understanding tone with a friendly smile. Spare me. I feel like 99% of the time it's not genuine and the message is only intended to assuage the rejector's guilt. It's easy to "care" from a distance, when it's not your problem. I find it especially irritating when the person delivering this sympathy was emotionally withholding during the relationship. Suddenly they give a rat's arse about you? Sure. There's my rant.
tanbark813 Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Next time just piss the dude off enough that he won't want to wish you well.
Trialbyfire Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 It's not always false or condescending. It's possible that people do wish you happiness, particularly if they're in a happy mindset.
johan Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 You're way too much of a winner to let stuff like this bother you, Shadow. Now chin up and get out there! Atta girl!
