Lizzie60 Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 I had a phone call last week from a guy I worked with many many years ago.. (left that job about 9 years ago and I never say him after). He found out I was single.. and he asked a friend of mine for my phone number. He left me a message (his voice was shaky)... he said he would like to see me for a coffee. This guy is older (maybe 6-7 years) he could be 62-63 now. I was never interested in him.. He had a girlfriend at the time.. now is single.. He's really not my type... but he was nice.. He lives about 1 1/2 hour away... I haven't called him yet.. because I don't really want to see him.. but I feel bad for not calling back.. I don't want to sound rude.. not sure how to tell him that I'm not interested.. My best friend told me to ignore him.. another one told me I should at least go for a coffee.. but I don't want him to waste his time... Any advices?

OpenBook Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Don't call him. Tell your mutual friend exactly what you said in your OP - that he's nice but you're not interested, and you don't want him to feel awkward about it by calling him and then rejecting him. Perhaps she'll relay the message for you?

Any advices? i think you should at least just go and have a nice conversation with him. you never know what could happen. ive had plenty of "empty dates" as in you know your going to meet up with someone you have no interest what so ever but then were glad you went cause you ended up having a really goo talk and reminiscing... i think you should go girl!!!

My friend was put on the spot.. and didn't know if I'd be mad at him..

He lives about 90 minutes away.. so it would take him 3 hours back and forth.. just to meet me.. I know he would like to date but I'm sooo not interested.. I know this guy.. he's not my type...eventhough he's a nice guy. Maybe I will just call him and tell him I am single and intend to remain that way.. .. he might get the message..
